Kaing Guek Eav, better known as Duch, former Khmer Rouge head of the infamous Tuol Sleng prison in Phnom Penh (S-21) has finally sentenced to 35 years for the murder and torture of over 14,000 people during the Pol Pot regime.
Of those years, Duch will only serve 19 (due to time already served etc) which, while better than 18 years, still seems pretty light for oversees the torturing and murder of 14,000 people.

The judge gave him a lesser sentence of 19 years as Duch had apparently co-operated with the police and had shown "remorse" during the trial. You could not make it up.

How come it takes courts so long (about 30 years) to bring people to justice for things like war crimes and the Bhopal disaster in India.

From what I read, I understood that Duch was going to appeal his sentence as he does not feel that his punishment is severe enough.
