PP Post has a little piece on the ubiquitous Blue Pumpking empire, which you will undoubtedly come across when you're in Siem Reap .
After landing in Siem Reap in August 2000, French pastry cook Arnaud Curtat and wife Thai Sudarat created the Blue Pumpkin empire, a gastronomic network that is all-pervasive in Temple Town.
Almost every supermarket and retail mall in Siem Reap stocks a Blue Pumpkin pastry stand, many of the town's functions are catered for by Blue Pumpkin and non-branded Pumpkin pastries and ice creams sell in many eateries.
Plus, there are nine specific Blue Pumpkin cafes dotted throughout town, including the recently renovated signature downtown cafe.
This chic, relentlessly white cafe, inspired by The White Room at Bangkok's Bed Supperclub, is a favourite with the guidebook writing set, but some criticism has been levelled by tourists for the absence of Khmer trappings.
Curtat told the Post, "Some tourists have told us that it is out of place because it's not Cambodian style. But we didn't want Cambodian style, we wanted something different."
It is indeed kind of refreshing to see something that's not a slave to Khmer style in Siem Reap. We think it kind of makes the town seem a little cosmopolitan. Or do you think it detracts?

Just come across this and have to say we loved the Blue Pumpkin Cafe. The main cafe near the market was brilliant - friendly staff, awesome food, great service - highly recommend a visit.
The cafe at Angkor was a perfect retreat for a bit of a cool down after some temple-ing! What I really liked about the cafe at Angkor was that it was almost hidden away, so it didn't detract from the temples and the surroundings in anyway.
My personal recommendation - the Coconut ice cream... lovely!
As for the design, I think it works really well and makes it stand out from the crown, without standing out too much if that makes any sense at all!
Cheers
Mark.
