    does anyone know if it is possible to buy mobile phones in thailand at cheaper prices than ireland and the uk?

    A friend bought a basic Nokia here the other day for 1300 baht .

    Check out MBK shopping centre in Bangkok, it's the best place in the country for mobile phones. The whole of the 3rd floor (although for some strange reason it is referred to it as the 4th floor) is dedicated to mobile phones and similar gadgets.

    The norm is to but them without a contract so there are literally hundreds on the market. You can buy new or second hand Nokia 2360 or something like that cost me 3600 baht last week. Very flat thing with camera and video etc....

    PS - pre-pay SIM cards are available from 50 baht up
