We are a family travelling for 6 months in India, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
We will bring a computer (ASUS EEEPC with WIFI, only 1 kg)and are ready to buy a mobile phone once we're there.
What is the cheapest solution when we want to be connected "on the run" - and to avoid spending time in internet cafes.
Is 3G available? Or any other technology?
Do we need to buy a SIM in each country? And which ones are cheapest?
Any help is appreciated.
We imagine that we will use the phones to stay in contact with eachother in case we split directions, and to phone ahead for accommodation.
Thanks!

TravelHappy had a good round up on this topic recently -- at least as far as Thailand is concerned -- should be a good starting point.
