Hoi An - Warning - Stay away from Lin Lin tailors!

  • bretandgerri

I have been royally ripped-off in Hoi An by Lin Lin tailors (22 Tran Phu St, opposite the market). Partly my naivety; I broke my golden rule and didn't shop around, but went straight there and was sucked in by the gorgeous sweet kind sales lady (who strangely wouldn't give her name!) got measured up for a bunch of stuff, which she was vague about the price of, and then she told me these 6 items would come to $380 US!!! I just about died. She let me off with $330, and I stupidly paid a deposit, still in shock! Then went round the corner and got a quote for the same stuff for $90. Went straight back and she defended herself saying hers was better-quality material, better tailoring, all the clothes would be lined and double-stitched. When we got them back, they were rubbish quality, terribly made, not lined or double-stitched, a lot of features not what I asked for, and won't last 2 seconds. She was rude and surly and childishly wouldn't speak to us for the rest of the fitting.

We ended up going to Thinh Thanh (Le Loi St) and they were great, much better quality and half the price!

We absolutely adored Hoi An, but this place really spoiled the experince for me.
