Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to go to DMZ to visit the Vinh Moc Tunnels FROM the Phong Nha Caves? I read that we can do both FROM Hue, but I will be coming from the North. I plan to take a night train from Hanoi to Dong Hoi, go to the Phong Nha caves and then I would like to go directly to the Vinh Moc Tunnels and then, I want to go to Hoi An ( I am not planning to go to Hue).
Thanks for your help!
It is my first posting on Travelfish. I passed so many hours on Travelfish, reading and reading.... You really helped me to prepare my trip. Thank you so much!

My maid comes from Dong Hoi. Got to go there someday. She invited me to go visit her family in their village there.
Have a good trip.

Yes -- go from Dong Hoi (train or bus) to Dong Ha and then visit the caves and DMZ from there. You may find the following story of help: The DMZ: Traveller tactical briefing

Hi,
You can take the bus from Dong Hoi Phong Nha Caves. Continue to Dong Ha to visit VinhMoc Tunnels.
I beleive that if you would like to take the train to Danang, you will need to get back to Dong Hoi.
Or you just stay at Dong Ha and take the bus to Danang.

I'm not sure how they refer to it when they are talking amongst themselves, but from a tourist perspective, they certainly still refer to it as DMZ. I recall seeing signs along the road referring to the DMZ.

That's funny. I wonder if they have displays on how they violated the DMZ? You know, tunnels for storing munitions and so forth. There would be a comic element to that. In theory the DMZ should be of no interest, since there's nothing there.

You can Travel from Phong Nha Farmstay to the Vinh Moc Tunnels by Motorbike Taxi, Hire Car or by local Bus to Dong Ha (Very Cheap) then a Motorbike Tourguide or Taxi from there.
Google Phong Nha Farm Stay or phngnhafarmstay@gmail.com for more info.
(Phong Nha Farmstay is close to Phong Nha Caves and Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.)
Tam's Cafe at 81 Tran Hung Dao st, Dong Ha provides good and honest tourist Information to Travellers about the DMZ. They also employ young Deaf people to operate there Cafe. Alot of the Kids in Quang Tri Province are deaf from Bombs exploding around the DMZ.

Dong Ha is just south of the Vinh Moc Tunnels and Hue City is about 85km south of Dong Ha.
