Ill be arriving in Ho Chi Minh city a week from now and have some questions about guest houses/hostels? Where are the best ones, or ones people would recommend? Pref. in District 1. Ill be arriving late, at about 11pm so it should be a place with 24hr reception. Dorms or single rooms are okay too. If anyone has a recommendation or advice let me know.

Saigon has a million of them - so if you could narrow down how you are defining "best" that would help people help steer you. For example, this appeals to me, but might not be to your tastes:
You really need to give some indication of your budget. Most places, even if closed, can be woken up. Mini hotels go for about $20 or less per room (breakfast sometimes included) and as Madmac says there are loads of them. If you are looking at 2/3 star and above, it might pay to go look at some booking agents to see what is available (Agoda, AsiaRooms etc). Nothing says you have to book with them.
