Hello. Has anybody visited Bai Tu Long Bay (immediately Northeast of Halong Bay)? We were initially planning to visit Halong Bay and Cat Ba, but have the option of doing a tour (overnight on junk, kayakking, with Handspan) in Bai Tu Long Bay instead (which is supposed to be far less crowded and less developed).
However, I was wondering whether the scenery in Bai Tu Long is quite as dramatic as in Ha Long Bay? Is it just a Lite-version of Halong Bay, or is it just as stunning in natural beauty?
Thanks!
Hi guys. We did the 3 day Bai Tu long bay tour with Handspan which was pretty cool.
It was pretty quiet and not crowded, although we still saw a few dozen other tourists. I was told that Halong Bay and Bai Tu Long bay are very similar, but that "some people say" that the karsts in Halong are perhaps somewhat taller, making the scenery a bit more dramatic. Still a beautiful place.
Nb: we also visited Phang Nga Bay in Andaman Thailand prior to this trip, and I found the scenery/geography very similar, although in PNB the karsts weren't clustered as closely and the overall area of the bay wasn't as big. However, we did PNB as a 3 day kayakking trip where we really got to explore the hongs and islands in a small group of 4 individual kayaks, at our own leisure/pace, and I found that mode of doing it a far more enjoyable than exploring in a junk.
Normally, all of tours only discover small part in Bai Tu Long Bay. There are some caves, small beaches, fishing village inside. Beside that, the mountain in Bai Tu Long bay must more interesting than Halong Bay. You could get on the highspeed boat from Cairong Port (Vandon Dist) to Bai Tu Long Bay, to Quan Lan island, Coto island also. Coto is the best island now in this Area. Beauty nature, friendly, cheap and easy to come, most beautiful beaches.

I am considering Bai Tu Long instead of Ha Long, and was wondering if you have done your trip yet?
