Any nice-ish beaches near HCMC?

  • mhwillis

Will be in HCMC for a short four days in early January, but wondering if its possible to squeeze in a quick beach fix. Any nice beaches near HCMC (within an hour or two-at-most from the city)? Or are the great beaches elsewhere in the country like I've been reading? Perhaps the weather may not be all that cooperative anyway? Any insight would be great!

Everything I've read indicates the time of year is bad and the closest quality beach to Saigon is 3-4 hours away. Maybe someone else here has some more practical experience.

There are Vung Tau beach. It is far from Ho Chi minh 100km. It takes you about 2hours there.

Vung Tau (125km, 3hrs), Mui Ne (200km, 4hrs) are better for you.
Can Gio beach (Ho Chi Minh City) is a beach but it's not nice.

Vung Tau is closer to Saigon, but word around the campfire is the beach isn't all that.
