Hoping to be in Vietnam during this time with 9 year son and hoping for an awesome cultural experience. I am also wondering when Vietnam has this public holidays does this mean the country more or less close for these 4 days? Will getting out and about be a problem? Thank you.

http://www.vietnamonline.com/tet.html - I was there during TET quite a few moons ago, didn't have any problems. Most will suggest you book in advance. Things don't really close down, it's a cash cow.

Make sure you're somewhere touristy. We were stuck for a good 4-5 days in Cao Bang and struggled to find food - even the majority of street vendors were closed.

I was in Ho Chi Minh, so it wasn't a problem.

Thank you for your replies, I have had a read through the above link. At this stage I do not have a set itinerary but we only have 2 or possibly 2 1/2 weeks in Vietnam so would definitely need to travel on during this time, then onto Thailand for the same amount of time. Due to the ticket scams I have read about, am thinking of delaying the trip for two weeks as this seems a ripe time for it to happen.

Hi
It is quite boring if you traveling during Chinese New Year in Vietnam, no restaurant open, no daily activity, service is double charge
