I'm planning to fly from Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok at the end of a 6 week trip...
Any advice on how to get the cheapest fares, whether I need to book before I leave or while I'm out there - and if there are any good websites for this!?

Bangkok Airways has a good promo on this route at the moment -- I think you'd struggle to get a lower fare elsewhere.

The price from HMC to Bangkok is $90 cheaper than Bangkok Airways. Pacific Airlines offers cheaper domestic flights in Vietnam as well (ie. HMC to Hanoi is $70-$80 compared to $100 with Vietnam Airlines).
