    Hello,

I'm planning to have a 24days round trip in South East Asia in August.

My idea is to visit Vietnam in 12/13 days (starting the tour from HaNoi), 3 days for Angkor Wat in Cambodgia, 3 days in Bangkok and 5/6 in Ko Samui .

This is my itinerary for Vietnam
    Day 1) Ha Noi
    Day 2) Ha Noi
Day 3) Ha Noi -> Halong Bay
Day 4) Halong Bay -> Ha Noi -> (flight) -> Da Nang -> Hoi An
    Day 5) Hoi An
Day 6) Hoi An -> Hue
    Day 7) Hue
Day 8) Huw -> Ho Chi Minh
    Day 9) Ho Chi Minh
Day 10) Ho Chi Minh -> Mekong Delta
    Day 11) Mekong Delta
Day 12) Mekong Delta -> Ho Chi Minh -> Siem Reap
Day 13) Siem Reap / Angkor Wat
    Day 14) Angkor Wat
Day 15) Angkor Wat -> Bangkok
    Day 16) Bangkok
    Day 17) Bangkok
Day 18) Bangkok -> Ko Samui
    Day 19) Ko Samui
    Day 20) Ko Samui
    Day 21) Ko Samui
    Day 22) Ko Samui
    Day 23) Ko Samui
    Day 24) Ko Samui -> Bangkok -> .. ->HOME

    What do you think/suggest?

In case I would be able to spend in Vietnam 2 more days what will you suggest?

Moreover, I was considering to use the services of a travel agency in Angkor Wat and Vietnam, do you have a reliable travel agency to suggest?

    Thanks in advance.

    Daniele

    Hi Danielle,

We just joined this site due to scams in Vietnam - some of which we have fallen for - however we have been travelling around SEA for over 2 months and have gone to the some of the destinations on your itinery so thought we would make this our first post.

Firstly please read up on transport scams (if you haven't already) from the airport in Ha Noi as they are endemic. We haven't been yet, but are currently having issues in Vietnam with constant complex scams that we haven't got our head around yet - 2 of which where transport scams, 1 we fell for another we did not. Vietnam seems a little more rugid than the rest of SEA when travelling and it's important to be informed (especially on what things cost and the currency exhange rates) and have your wits about you.

That being said we can't help you out much for your itinerary in Vietnam as we haven't been to some of those places yet (currently in De Lat - which is beautiful).

From Ho Chi Minh to Siem Reap its going to be at least a 12 hour bus ride, you'd have to use a travel agency bus - we'd recommend Mekong Express. It's maybe $3 or $4 more than others but they tend not to stop as often and have a very good reputation. Likewise from Siem Reap to Bangkok, you could use the same company. They will pick you up at your hotel and you can ask if they will drop you off their too(or at least arrange something for you) I think from SR to Bangkok is around 13-14 hours - but we didn't do this journey.

The only other recommdation we'd make is to swop Koh Samui for Koh Tao - which is closer to BK (but still gonna take 16hours by bus an boat to get to). In our opinion KT was the best island on the south east coast. Samui is very large and just too commercialised for us. KT, on the other hand, has some great places to stay - from secluded parts on Hin Wong Bay, to beautiful restaurants and the beach of Chalok Bay or even the more hectic, party scene of Sairee beach.

I'm sure no matter what you decide you'll have a fantastic time and hope you enjoy your SEA adventure.
