First time travelling HELP!
6th October, 2013
I really need some advice so fire away.
I'm confused how to get from Halong bay to Dong Hoi. I would like to visit the Phong Kna-Ke caves and spend a bit of time by the national park. I hope to then travel onwards to Danang and then onto Nha Trang to spend a little time on the beach. Ill then go straight on to HCMC. I've got just over 2 weeks to do the whole thing and need the most easiest form of transport. Preferably not flying as I think trains would be the best method.
I'd appreciate any advice.

You'll need to go back into Hanoi and from there you can either take the train or fly to dong hoi. I think Phong Nha/the cave's about 45 mins by car from there but I haven't been for a couple of years so can't remember the exact timings or cost.
You can then go back to Dong Hoi for the train to Danang and onwards.

Yes, Arah is right. You need to come back to Hanoi where every public transports pass by. Then you could take a train there to Dong Hoi ( Quang Binh province) that is the nearest station to get to Phong Nha cave. However, people said that Paradise cave is much more beautiful than Phong Nha and they are almost close to each others so check it out and maybe you will have some changes in your itinerary to have more interesting experience. Good luck and happy travel.

Train travel can be really really really s-l-o-w and boring - esp for long trips like Danang to Nha Trang. Don't want to see you wasting those 2 weeks - air travel can be very good and good value. I suggest either Vietnam Airlines or Vietjet Airlines - book on their websites for the best price.
(2 wks is not really enough time to see VN very well!)
