Hoi An Golden Sands Resort renovations?

Posted by BrigZapps on 9/2/2014 at 22:27

Hi everyone,
We are a family from Western Australia travelling to Hoi An, Vietnam in July 2014 (2 adults, 2 teenagers). We are booked in at the Swiss Bel Golden Sands Resort for 10 days. I understand that they don't have much of a beach left after storms in November 2013, but I can't seem to get a reassuring answer on renovations happening within the rest of the hotel. Reports vary between pool bar closed to pool bar, entire pool, rooms under construction and half the hotel being closed? I would greatly appreciate any advice as to whether we should look for alternate accom or will it all be ok come July?
Regards,
Brigitte

Hi, the Swiss Bel Hotel took quite a beating during Nari - the pool and some of the beach villas were heavily damaged and there has been a fair amount of beach lost - the resort had to close for a period of time for renovation work but is now up and running normally again.
Unlike the Victoria Resort and The Sunrise further down the coast though, it still has a beach frontage (although during high tide it's quite narrow).
The beach front villas still look quite exposed as they lost a lot of the mature trees and planting that gave them more privacy - you can see right into them from the beach - by July though I imagine this will not be so much of a problem.
Having said all that - the hotel is due renovation work at some future date which is nothing to do with the storm damage, there was talk of them segregating areas so that there was a new 'super star wing' complete with helicopter pad (!) but they sacked the manager they bought in to oversee this just after Nari and I'm not sure that the plans have been delayed. It might be worth emailing the resort directly just to ask if any building work will be going on over the time of your booking.
If you are still unsure, the neighbouring Palm Garden Resort is quite similar and their beach was mostly unaffected by the storm.

Hi, I would recommend you to stay at golden sand, they had renovated the pool it looks so beautiful 150 meter pool.

I see they are building a ocean pool bar and a beach restaurant which would be very luxury. They would complete everything in July, you shouldn't worry.

Hope you have good relaxing stay.
