Hi there is no direct train to Hoi An, you'd have to get train to Danang and either get a local bus or get taxi. We got a taxi with Mai Ling for 400,000d but 350,000 on way back in smaller taxi different company. When you get to station you can haggle for price. A private taxi also offered to take us to HA for 250,000 but we didn't accept as we didn't quite trust him.

So train times - we took day train from Danang to Hue took just over 2.5hrs, we then bought another ticket from Hue (as we're stopping there for few days) to Hanoi over night which will take 13hrs though there is a quicker day train which takes 11hrs. So a straight run would take 13.5hrs ish. The reason we decided on night train sleeping coach is because we didn't want to waste a whole day travelling and it saves us one night's hotel.

    Hope that makes sense.

If you're planning on itinerary, not sure if you've heard of 'heaven and earth' bicycle tours in Hoi An. We went yesterday and it was quite fun and interesting. There's different tours but we went on an afternoon one where you take boat over to another island, ride around with various stops to see local craftsmen and see the countryside. It's slightly expensive but still glad we did it.

We started our trip South working up north stopping at saigon, madagui, dalat, nha trang, Hoi An, hue and will be going to Hanoi in few days, using mixture of bus and train.

Also meant to say ticket from hue-hanoi sleeping train 9pm ish 'soft seat' is 780,000d per ticket though is cheaper if you choose 'hard seat'.
