I have noticed that most of the guide books seem to stop at the end of the Cam Nam bridge. This is a shame because Cam Nam is a delightful area of Hoi An. The streets are small and its kind of like walking through Hobbiton. Little kids chase you down the streets shouting, "hello" and "Where you from?" It's very cool and really nice to get away from the hectic pace of central Old Town. The island extends about 4 kilometers with the road jogging to the right a half a dozen times to compensate for the angle of the island. There are lots of small roads and the occaisonal canal, some with interesting bridges, extending along the Hoi An side of the island. There are 3 good sized hotels, a new very cheap guest house and several bars and restaurants available. The most notable bars are the Sleepy Gecko, and expat bar, and King Kong, a late night haunt of the backpacker crowd. Both have the standard beer and cocktails necessary for comfort or oblivion depending on your tastes. The Lighthouse is a Dutch run restaurant and Bike tour shop. The best apple pie around. So... all in all. Get a little off the map and enjoy a, not so touristed area. You'll have a good time!

Thanks for that advice. Sounds good and I will check it out when we visit in a couple of weeks!
