I am looking for suggestions on itineraries for a brief 3 day trip originating in Ho Chi Minh and optimally ending in/near Rach Gia as we intend to continue on to Phu Quoc.

Are there any suggestions on doing a self tour through the Mekong? Is it relatively easy to find transportation and such? Any insight would be so appreciated!

    Thanks a bunch!

This story covers some of the easily visited spots in the Mekong Delta.

With three days, I'd suggest overnighting in probably Can Tho and Vinh Long -- try for a homestay at the latter.

Local transportation is straightforward, inexpensive and a tad uncomfortable!

    One more quick question.

Is there anyway that is relatively (to Vietnam speed) quick to get to Siem Reap from Phu Quoc or would the best bet be to back track through HCM?

    Thanks again!

Well, the quickest way it to fly from Phu Quoc Island to Saigon and then fly to Siem Reap.

If you're going overland, the quickest route is to go from Rach Gia to ha Tien and then cross the border over into Kep in Cambodia. From there, travel north to Phnom Penh and then onto Siem Reap. You'll need to overnight in Phnom Penh .

If you go via Saigon, you'll need to overnight in Saigon and again in Phnom Penh .

For info on PQ to Kep , see the last part of this story and repeat the steps backwards.
