Hi, in cambodia at the moment and planning to leave for vietnam next week. Would anyone know the best way to get from Phnom Penh to Phu Quoc? I have been advised to possibly avoid the delta as it is rainy season and the mosquitos are particularly bad, is this true. I was considering getting the boat to Chau Doc and then making my way down the delta to then fly to the island, does anyone know if this is tricky or possible. Would it be more sensible to get the bus from PP to HCMC and then fly to Phu Quoc. Thank you.

Hi there, you don't need a visa for Vietnam if you go straight to Phu Quoc from Cambodia and to Phu Quoc only. Problem is there is no scheduled transport as of now. You would have to charter your own fishing boat, bit risky, but it has been done before. Chau Doc to Ha Tien is an exciting part of the delta, but in rainy season it's quite an adventure. As far as mosquitos go, just cover up well and you should be okay. There's 4 flights a day to PQ from Saigon, but better book a few days in advance in this season, they're booked up very rapidly. If you want to play safe, fly. If you want a bit of adventure, take the Chau Doc-Ha Tien route and then by boat to PQ. If you're mad...., go down to Kep and go by fishing boat.
