What's the best way to get from Saigon to Hanoi?

  • Isa77

    Hello

I will be travelling in Vietnam over Christmas and New Years and am not sure the best way to get from Saigon to Hanoi? The train seems reasonably priced but takes 3days! is it worth it to pay more for a flight or is the train a fun thing to do?

Train will give you more Vietnamese things, but takes time.
If you travel direct from Hanoi to Saigon, should fly, arround 100 USD/ticket. It's worthy.
If you stop somewhere on the way, take bus. Bus can give you many stop. Train doesn't.
    Cheers.

Vietnam Airlines is 97 USD one way. Pacific Airlines is even cheaper. Better that taking the train all the way, I would say.

    Hi all,

Great info (above) on flights. I googled for both airlines , and only found www.pacificairlines.com.vn

Their online enquiry shows regular flights between Ha Noi and Da Nang, but when I use the online reservation system, I run into problems. Has anyone managed to crack this?

    Thanks

Is it advisable to book the flights months in advance or is it fairly reasonable to find flights around Christmas time with 2/3 days advance booking notice?

I'm not certain what dates I want to travel as I want my stay in Saigon to dictate how long I stay.

    Thanx

There's a dozen flights a day between HCMC and Hanoi, you should be able to find a flight 3 days before take-off, esp. for the 06:30 morning one.
It's high season but for a few tickets you will be fine.
