Highway 6 road conditions

  • sdevlin

I'm planning to see the northwest by motorbike in January 2010 and am wondering what the road conditions will be like. I've heard highway 6 is currently undergoing major upgrades. Has this made the Hanoi - Sapa journey problematic? Any info about weather conditions at that time of year would also be appreciated.

    thanks

That will be a great time to travel, not with rain!

One path about 80 km has been under-construction but will be done soon.

    Happy travel!

As of last October, Hwy 6 is OK to Son La . From Son La to DBP it's in a state of 'repair'. That is, a major rebuild 'in situ'. Some sections are soft dirt, others hard dirt.

But, because the road is being fixed up, and if you take it steady, you'll be OK.

From DBP to SaPa has some smaller sections being repaired.

Generally OK till close to SaPa (again major rebuild, but on the SaPa side of the range top).

    I envy you.

    Go for it.

    cheers
