Has anyone had any experience flying from Saigon to Siem Reap?
Cost - Airlines - Times etc.
Are Jetstar now flying between these ports?

Jetstar are showing it, but no dates. So, it must be planned for, but as yet no permission.
I looked at Expedia and they are showing Bangkok Airways and Vietnam Airlines both at US#260 per sector.
However, Jetstar have flights to Singapore, then another to Siem Reap . There are some flights currently on special from Saigon - Singapore for US$36, and Singapore - Siem Reap S$136.
cheers

I suppose the only reason to fly would be time constraints.
I did the Mekong entry to Phnom Phen last year and then bussed it to Siem Reap.
I found the river entry a great alternative.
cheers

Bruce,
Yeah I wanted to avoid backtracking from PP to SR and back.
We'll see what we can get when we get to VN.

Hi stig.
There are many flights from Ho Chi Minh to Siem Reap per day. you might consider some flights as below
Vn827 - 11h40, VN807 - 12h25, Vn823 - 15h35, Vn829 - 16h30 and last one Vn849 - 18h35. I believe it takes you 1 hrs to get Siem Reap from Ho Chi Minh. Cost of flight is : US$ 180 (including tax). You also pay extra airport tax US$ 25 per person.
Water way with express boat from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh and then landway from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap is really good choice.
Wish you have good choice

I'm going to be in Vietnam in Sept 09 for, sadly, a very limited time and aside from flying, I am trying to figure out the most efficient way to get from Saigon to Siem Reap.
The most recommended route is the bus from Saigon to Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, which is a great sounding trip but longer than I have time for.
I have also heard about a bus to a certain point on the Tonle Sap, then a speedboat to Siem Reap. Has anyone heard of this? Does anyone know the name of the riverside city or how long that combination might take? Is river travel advisable during the rainy season?
Finally, doesn anyone know if there is an overnight bus or train I can take for one leg of the trip?
THANKS SO MUCH for any and all replies.

The speedboat takes all day, and costs US$155. At the moment, the company isn't showing any scheduled departures.
The bus from PP to SR takes about 6 hours.
Have a look at my post #2, above re: cost/speed. If US$155 is OK, then so is flying via Singapore (Jetstar/Tiger) or KL (AirAsia).
For flight info on the Singapore or KL hubs, go look at:

I'm arriving in Saigon the 14th and must be in Hanoi by the 22nd. I would LOVE to check out Angkor via the Mekong delta, but is that really possible on a budget? How long is the bus/boat trip from Saigon-PP-SR?

you must be in HaNoi on 22nd = 6 days travel & 1 day to get from Siem reap to HaNoi.
day 1 - leave SaiGon travel to Chau Doc ON Chau Doc
day 2 - leave Chau Doc up river to Phnom Penh
day 3 - bus to Siem Reap
day 4 - Angkorian Temples
day 5 - Angkorian Temples
day 6 - Angkorian Temples
day 7 - fly HaNoi.
SaiGon - PP, go check www.sinhcafevn.com for price.
PP - Siem Reap, about US$14 for bus tix.
Siem Reap to HaNoi, you'll have to go with full cost carrier, eg. Vietnam Airlines, approx US$260, or via Bangkok.
Angkorian temple entry price app US$40 (for 3 days, either 1 day or 3).
Also, go see this discussion for more.

My personal view: too rushed, too much time on travel. If I wanted to especially see the Angkorian Temples, I'd fly Saigon - Siem Reap [US$160] and then Siem Reap - HaNoi. But, that's personal.
Cheers
