We went by public transport -- took a bus from the Mien Dong bus station in Saigon north to Phan Thiet, and then took a motorbike from there to Mui Ne. The bus was ok -- not super-crowded, but certainly not luxurious. I think the overall time taken was comparable.

I am also looking into how to get to Mui Ne from Ho Chi Min. I'm actually flying from Hanoi to Ho Chi Min (morning flight) near the end of April. I would like to go directly to Hong Di Bungalows in Mui Ne (via "downtown" Ho Chi Min if necessary). I do not want an open bus tour and this is for 2 people.
How would I go about finding cheaper/reasonable alternatives (no open bus or train)?
Would the manager at my Hanoi hotel help me do all this?

Open Tour bus is very cheap. Approx US$5-7. I'm guessing Local Bus wouldn't be much cheaper at 'foreigner prices'. So it's up to you whether you want to be 'hardcore' or not. I can't think of any cheaper way. It's obviously too far for a moto. I heard of someone travelling from Mui Ne to HCM in a taxi. Cost them US$70 for 4 people. Not exactly cheap, but if you need to get to plane quickly... hahaha.

Hi there, you can either take a train from HCM to Phan Thiet, then from Phan Thiet you can either take a taxi to Mui Ne. Although i'd like to warn you that Mui Ne is boring. Nothing much do do there and no dive operators. I would pick Nha Trang over Mui Ne anyday. Being vietnamese, my parents chartered a van from HCM all the way to Nha Trang for 100 bucks. We stopped along Mui Ne to visit but didnt stay over night. There are alot of places you can charter a van for cheap and if you have alot of people you can split the cost.

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone knows the pros/cons of going to Mui Ne via public transport or on a tour.
I would prefer to go on Public Transport if it is cheap/fast/somewhat comfortable.
Thanks in Advance!

Thanks again.
