Just to let you know we've added in most of our new Mekong Delta coverage, including a bunch of pics from the lovely Phu Quoc Island. You can see the photos here: Phu Quoc Island photo gallery.

hi sontam,
We are heading to the delta on Friday - I can't wait - great timing on your update!
One small question - is it possibel to use one town as a base and do worthwhile day trips through the delta or should be do a bit of a loop and only stay a ccouple of days in each location? We have to be in Saigon by the 15th so we only have about a week to spend in the delta.
Thanks,
Chunk

Hi Chunk,
Are you in Saigon now? I'm in Saigon and will be till at least Saturday, so if you'd like to meet up, let me know and I'll get in touch with you by email.
Most of the Delta capitals are between one and two hours (by bus) from one another, but it's not really practical to use one centre as a base to visit a large portion of the Delta as you'll spend a lot of time in transport, and in late afternoon the number of buses available tends to drop off and you may get stranded.
With a week, you could do something like Sgn -> My Tho or Ben Tre -> Vinh Long -> Can Tho and then back to Sgn (unless you're going to Phu Quoc of course) and I'm assuming you're coming from Saigon-- if you're coming from Cambodia, don't miss Chau Doc -- a great spot. With most of the Delta towns, one night is generally enough -- unless you just like sitting by the river, drinking cofee and writing postcards of course -- then you could spend much longer...

thanks sontam,
we are coming from Phnom Penh today - so we'll definitely check out Chau Doc and then slowly meander our way through. We'll be in Saigon on the 15th so if you are still there then it would be great to catch up.

Hi Chunk,
I'll still be in Saigon on the 15th, so if you fancy meeting up, that would be great. I've emailed details on how you can track me down...
Cheers
