    Will be traveling through Southeast Asia for 6 weeks in Dec/Jan. with children (10 & 12). Interested on suggestions on the best route from Louang Phabang - Phonsavang - Southern Laos _ Hoi An.

    Bus from Luang Prabang to Phonsavan, then fly to Vientiane and then either fly or bus to Savannakhet (Pakse airport closed).

    The border crossing most convenient to Hoi An the Lao Bao crossing (east of Savannakhet) -- it's a very very long day of travel from one to the other.

    Is it possible to bus from Phonsavan - Pakse - Savannakhet?? If so what would be the routing and timeframes. Have time to relax along the way. Any suggestions on places not to miss or routes not to take are welcome.
