Hello all,
We've been living in Vietnam for a couple months and are just about finished with a volunteer gig and have one month to explore Southeast Asia starting next week before heading back. We're only now able to plan.
The trip would start in Hanoi . We're having trouble figuring out where to go next, seeing that we've already been to central and northern Vietnam and are looking to head out of the country next. We will need to end the trip in Saigon.
Here's what we'd like to do:
-Begin in Hanoi
-Hong Kong
-Vientiane
-Luang Prabang
-Bokeo (Gibbon Experience)
-Bangkok
-Chiang Mai
-Southern Thailand Beach - TBD
-Bali
-Phnom Penh
-Siem Riep
-Southern Vietnam:
-Dalat
-Nha Trang
-Mui Ne
-End in Saigon
Any advice on where to go after Hanoi would be greatly appreciated. Flights to HK are about $300 one way so not sure if that's the best next destination.

To do all that in four weeks, you'd spend most of your days travelling and probably wouldn't enjoy it too much. I'd say you'd be better off sticking to two countries outside Vietnam or even just one if you include Southern Vietnam. For example, I think four weeks would be a good amount of time to spend exploring Laos and a bit of Cambodia or alternatively Southern Vietnam and Cambodia.

As per Lother, that is a LOT of ground to try and cover in four weeks. I'd be inclined to drop Hong Kong and Bali leaving you something like:
Fly from hanoi to Laos:
-Vientiane 2 days
-Luang Prabang 4 days
-Bokeo (Gibbon Experience) 3 days
-Bangkok 3 days
-Chiang Mai 3 days
-Southern Thailand Beach - TBD 7 days on one island
-Phnom Penh 2 days
-Siem Riep 3 days
-Dalat 2 days
-Nha Trang 2 days
-Mui Ne 2 days
That's 33 days with no allowance for travel time...

Thank you for writing. We're looking into extending our time in SE Asia by about 2 weeks to accommodate Hong Kong and Bali, and also to not be so rushed through our trip.
