Im not sure if this is the most appropriate place for this post but here goes anyways.
I'll be overseas for a month (14th jan-15th feb, 2010), starting in bangkok and then heading up to chiang mai. I plan to spend around 9 days in thailand (Im not too flexible with this part). From there i would like to head through laos and then over to the north of vietnam and hopefully cambodia of possible.
My question is where are the best places to go considering my time constraints, and is cambodia realistically possible? Any help is greatly appreciated and sorry for the excessively long post

After Thailand, you have about three weeks. It is possible to go through Laos to Northern Vietnam and then back to Thailand through Cambodia in that time, but I think such a trip would be very rushed indeed.
With the time you have, I'd probably spend the whole three weeks in Laos - it's a great destination with so much to offer. But if you definitely want to go to at least 3 countries, my suggestion would be to either cut out Vietnam and spend something like 2 weeks in Laos and one week in Cambodia, or leave out Cambodia and fly back to Thailand from Vietnam (and even then I'd suggest sticking to Northern Vietnam only).

Hi,curioustraveller
As per your schedule, You like to stay in Thai Lan for 9 days. So you has 3 weeks to travel across Indochina ( Vietnam, Lao, Cambodia).
In fact 3 weeks is short time to travel 3 countries but it's possible.
In my experience, you should travel highlights of these countries.
Lao: Vientiane and Luang Prabang (4-5 days)
Cambodia: Angkor Wat and Phnom Penh( 4 days)
Then you should visit through out Vietnam- the beautiful and peaceful country. Start in Ho Chi Minh city ( Saigon) - the modernest city in Vietnam ( 2 days), travel Mekong Delta, go up Hoi An - the ancient town, Hue, Ha Long Bay - the Word nature heritage site, go to Hanoi- the capital of Vietnam, Sapa- the big adventure. Those for who want to discovery the local life, history, sightseeing,...

Considering the fact that your planned dates run right smack into Tet on Feb 14th, I would only go to Laos and Cambodia this time. Come back again and do Vietnam only for at least 3 weeks.
