Intrepid Tour around Vietnam??

Posted by Rachaelbb on 10/10/2006 at 11:03

Hi, I am looking to travel around Vietnam in Feburary next year and as I am travelling alone I thought it may be best to take a tour? I have found quite a good one with Intrepid which is called "Vietnam Unplugged" and is 15 days long. This goes to all the places I want to see and is reasonably priced, I think?

Do you think I am best to do a tour rather than travelling alone? Has anyone done an Intrepid Vietnam tour lately?

Thanks heaps!
Rachael

Hi Rachelbb,

Welcome to Travelfish!

Vietnam is pretty easy to tarvel in and there's lots of mini-tours you can do from various spots along the country. There's also lots of people travelling solo. So on one hand there's little need to do a tour...

Nevertheless, if you're going to be more comfortable travelling in a tour then go for it! Intrepid is a good company with a great reputation. I know quite a few of their guides and they know their stuff...

AVOID TOUR OPS! Over priced and often unlicenced / inexperienced,

Be aware that Tet falls in early February 2007 and it is as good as impossible to get transportation or hotel space that week - with or without a Tour Op.

Otherwise, start in the North at Ha Noi - see Ha Long Bay (< http://tropical-sails.com > is very good) and Sa Pa, the head south on the overnight sleeper Hue or Da Nang and then from either of those two to Nha Trang. After Nha Trang it's the bus to Da Lat then a bus to HCMC / SaiGon.

The VN children are taught English as part of their standard curiculum - rarely will you have trouble making yourself understood.
