We were on our way back from the Mekong Delta a few days ago and didn't have anywhere to stay, so we called around the places we knew from travelfish and from our guide books, and from the 'Pathfinder' expat guide. We called about 6 midrange hotels and none had any rooms available. We finally got a room at the Elios, but for only one night since they were full the next day. So we checked in there for one night and then headed over to have dinner at the Glass Noodle and look for a hotel to check in to for the following 4 nights. We found a whole bunch of mid-range hotels with great facilities and good rates on the streets just north of Ben Thanh market.

We settled on the Tuan Phuong, on Thu Kh Huan. $35 gets us a very large room with king sized bed, a leather sofa (that's admittedly seen better days) and solid wired and wireless internet in the room. We checked out about 4 hotels in this 'hood before settling on this one, some were closer to $50 a night, with newer fittings and larger rooms, and there are others in the $20 range. There are many many hotels around here and there are many many rooms available.

The Glass Noodle was excellent too!
