In Thailand and Feeling flustered after reading conflicting information, does anyone have up-to-date information on these boarder crossings...

    Thailand to Laos
I am planning to cross from Thailand through Chang khong boarder and get a 30 (?) day visa for $$$? my let's go book says to obtain one at chang khong at a travel agency for same day fee around 1500 baht.

    Laos to Cambodia
This seems a bit tricky. Can I cross at the southern end of Laos. i have read that Don Khong is closed, but thats where I will be at the end of my Laos stay. Can I cross here and get a visa? Do I have to exit to thailand and do a roundabout to Chong mek/ubon?

    Cambodia to Vietnam
I know that I need to get a visa to Vietnam prior to entering the country. Can I get it easily in Cambodia, since I dont want my 30-day Vietnam visa clock to start ticking until near my departure?

Its really hard and frustrating trying to get information out of even "nice and friendly" guesthouses because, unfortuantly everyone wants there share of a buck. I just need some information on obtaining visas easily instead of waiting a week and paying too much, when or if I can get it at the boarder. Can you tell I am a little stressed? I want to worry about things like my blonde hair causing a scene, deet poision in much needed bug spray, or taking my f'ing anti-malaria pills, instead of visa/boarder crossings. Thanks in advance, I will really appreciate the much needed information.

    Hi kid,

    Welcome to Travelfish!

Ahh visa woes -- gotta love them!

    1) Depending on your nationality, visa on arrival at the Chiang Khong crossing will cost US$30.

    2) Border is open and you can cross there and Cambodian visa on arrival is available. No need to go to Thailand. The crossing is south on Don Khon.

    3) You can get a Vietnamese visa in Phnom Penh -- a very straightforward process.

Here's a Visa FAQ thread that you may want to read -- a bit more up to date than your Let's Go!
