A bus from the Northern bus station in Bangkok to the border at Poipet costs around 150B and takes about 4 hours. From there both minibuses and taxis do the run into Siem Reap -- from memory a taxi is about $5 a seat, though it may have increased with rising petrol prices. The trip takes 3-5 hours depending on road conditions. For detailed info on this route, see the Tales of Asia website
there are also two trains per day departing bangkok's hualamphong train station for aranyaprathet, the last town on the thai side of the border before crossing into cambodia. one train leaves really early, but the other have an early afternoon departure, getting you into aranyaprathet in the late afternoon. this is a good option if you plan to spend the night in aranyaprathet and get an early start the next day for siem reap.

Do you think this route would be safe for three girls traveling alone?
