Want to go from Chiang Mai to Kunming in Yunna, China

    My wife and I want to travel as quickly and cheaply from Chiang Mai, Thailand to Kunming in Yunnan, China.

    What is the best route, means of travel and border crossing into China.

    We are Americans. Can we get Chinese Visas in Bangkok?

    Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
