Hi all,
i know this question has been asked a fair bit but i havnt read a definite answer saying yes or no or information on where and how. I know i can get one in Vientiane but im hoping to bypass this city and fly straight to Luang Prabang from Thailand. And i read the thread about getting one online. would prefer to get it in person.
So can i get a Vietnamese Visa in Luang Prabang? Any ideas on cost? how long will it take? Where can I get it from?
Much Appreciated
Shane
p.s. if it makes a difference im an Australian citizen. i will be traveling with two others, one is Irish, the other is Aussie.

Have you checked whether there is a Vietnamese consulate in LP? My guess is not. Why not get the visa in BKK if you don't want to go to Vientiane?

Cheers for the help somtam
i checked up on the website and it looks like they issue visas for $25US, also read on the lonely planet forum site that they offer a 3 day regular service and an express service for $30. Sorted. Though it looks like i will be heading through Vientiane anyway now.
p.s. gday Lukasz, looking forward to the trip hey.

Hey Mate,
Sure am looking forward to the trip :D
can't wait to arrive in Nong Khai, hopefully all the troubles will be sorted in BKK and we'll be able to get the over-nite train without any hassle.

Yes, you can get a visa to Vietnam at the consulate in Luang Prabang. Just did it a few days ago.
For an American passport same day\next day\2day are available for $65\50\40. Hours in October 2012 were M-F 7-11:30 amd 13:30-16:30.
See HO 174 on the map http://www.hobomaps.com/LuangPrabangMidMap.htm
Look for Sun Way hotel on Google map, it's across the street (I've added the consulate to Google maps but it will take a few days until it shows up)

if you will travel by air to vietnam, you could get a visa on arrival online instead of seeking for the consulate to apply for visa. there are a lot of online agencies that could help you with this. last month my husband used this site www.govietnamvisa.com with no trouble at all, it was easy and quick. you only need to complete the application form at the site and get the approval letter, that's all, the visa will be picked at arrival airport. can do it wherever you want. wish you have a good trip! share photos if you have time!
