Hello there,

I am planning to travel end of september from Vietnam over South Laos into Cambodja. However, I have heard that the Laos - Cambodja crossing is a real pain in the ass (difficult to find transport, bribery)? Has anybody got experience?

Do you know if there exists visa on arrival for both the Vietnam Laos crossing (Lao Bao) and the Laos-Cambodja crossing? Alternatively, I will try to arrange them in Hanoi? Any idea how long that takes?

Julie

Hi Julie,

The Laos/Cambodia crossing can be a bit trying at times, but, given its the only one between the two countries, you don't have much of a choice! Some report lots of hassle (mainly revolving around the price for the boat trip south to Stung Treng), but others pass through no problems...

You can get a Laos visa on arrival at Lao Bao and you can get a Cambodian visa at the Laos/Cambodia crossing. Note going the other way, you cannot get a Lao visa on arrival at the crossing with Cambodia, and you cannot get a Vietnamese visa at the crossing with Vietnam (luckily you're going in the direction you are!)
