As of October 1, 2006, new regulations regarding the 30-day visa-free entry to Thailand will come into play.

The guts of the new regulations appears to be that once three consecutive 30-day visa free entries have been granted, the visitor will then be required to be outside of Thailand for 90 days before any further visas will be granted. While some of the details of how this will be enforced remain murky, the new regulations appear to be aimed primarily at long-term abusers of this system rather than legitimate tourists.

Stickman has about the best summary of the sitaution I've found so far.
