looking to go to laos from hanoi, just wondering where is the best place to cross and how long it takes? can you also get the visas on the border as well?

You can take the bus from Hanoi to Vientien then find your way to Luang Phrabang. Bus takes about 11 hours I think, starts around 7pm from Laos Embassy in Hanoi. You also should prepare visa before you go which is easy enough to do in 2 days.
