Just wondering if anyone out there has done (or knows anyone who has) any volunteer work recently in a HIV/AIDS orphange anywhere in Cambodia? My partner and I are thinking of travelling there at the end of the year to spend up to a month volunteering...any info would be great!
If you're happy to wait till you get to Phnom Penh to sort something out, you'll see a lot of flyers in guesthouses and such like with information on volunteering opportunities -- there's no shortage of them in Cambodia.

Suggestions for Volunteering:
1. Phnom Penh
Visit the 'Veiyo' non-profit restaurant at No.237 Eo, Preah Sisowath Quay (on the river). The owner of the restuarant runs an orphanage (The New Cambodian Children's Life Association). There is currently 24 children and they welcome any help whether it's reading, going art, sports etc with the children. They also welcome food donations (ideally rice, did you know a large bag costs a huge US $22? so no wonder they need donations!). I actually went to the 'rice store' with one of the members of staff to make sure I wasn't charged tourists rates.
Also the food is very good in the restuarant, and the cause very worth while so spread the word!

2. Siem Reap
Visit the 'Mine Musuem' as there are also children here that would benefit from your time and energy.
3. Siem Reap / blood donations
on a separate note, in Siem Reap they are desperate for blood donations, they only take 1/2 pint (not a whole pint like in the UK) so you will feel fine afterwards and can carry on with your traveling/flying etc and you are not effected.
Nedders -- greta info there - thanks -- though you neglected to mention that Veiyo Tonle also does the best pizzas in Phnom Penh!
steviej, blood donations can be given at the main hospitals in Siem Reap -- not difficult to find -- the Angkor Hospital for Children and Jayavarman VII are the two most popular.
