Where to stay in Siem Reap? Should activities be booked ahead?

Posted by remsam on 8/11/2014 at 23:11

I am visiting Siem Reap for 5 nights next month with my mother and could really use some advice about where to stay and what to reserve ahead of time. My mom and I will be there around Christmas time (which I know is high season). Should I try to reserve any day tours, activities (bike tours, cooking classes, etc), or tuk-tuk drivers ahead or just wait until I arrive? I have done a huge amount of reading about areas and different hotels I'm having a really hard time making a final decision. ...

Craving for Alcoholic Milkshake in Phnom Penh?

Posted by jorjaft on 2/12/2014 at 11:26

Alcohol + Milkshake = Best of both World! Came across this little milkshake bar named ''Milky Way", tucked away in a quiet street filled with expatriates. I think its at the street behind Malis restaurant , St 308) Its a small little shop but its has a warm and homely feel to it. Ordered one of their signature drink named " Frozen Mudslide" ( I think it was vanilla ice cream with diff kind of alcohol mixed into it). Definitely a good way to ease off the swearing heat of Phnom Pe ...

Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville - Avoid \

Posted by Augustots on 1/12/2014 at 22:06

I've just got a really bad experience with this company! I've choose Giant Ibis because of its respectable reputation that I've seen from many reviews on internet...Even tough the price was a bit higher than other companies, I thought It would worth. I bought my tickets from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukvile 2 days in advance so I thought I wouldn't have any problem. I was wrong... The bus would leave PP at 9:30 am so they told me they would pick me up at 8:30 in my hotel. I woke up at 7:30, so then ...

I've heard that the new, direct bus route between Bangkok and SR was launched. I was wondering if anyone took it? ow long does it take and how do they sort visa issues at the Cambodian border? Is it any faster than other methods? What the best value for money & time to do the travel? (flight for us is too expensive). Is it best to do the train/bus or bus/bus journey? Would appreciate any comments. ...

Homestays

Posted by Morganj24 on 15/9/2014 at 08:57

I'm currently researching for my SE Asia trip next year. Reading through the Lonely Planet SE Asia on a shoestring book and I'm liking the idea of getting involved in a homestay within each country just so I can fully immerse myself in the culture. The first homestay recommendation I have come across in the book is no more I've had a Google but am reluctant to go with anything that I've not had recommended. So if anyone can recommend any homestay throughout SE Asia let me know. Thanks in adva ...

Help with bicycle renting in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh

Posted by ru40342 on 27/10/2014 at 13:18

Hi all, I am going to Cambodia (Siem Reap and Phnom Penh) next month (early-mid Nov) and wish to go around on bicycle. I read in wikitravel that bicycle can be rented around $2-$3 per day but I can't seems to find any information online (some websites offer bicycle rental for >$10 which is too much for me). So is it easy to rent bicycle for $2-$3 a day? Are there plenty of bicycle rental shops around these 2 cities? Also, is it safe to get around these 2 cities on bicycle? Thanks and any ...

Figuring out route--input please

I am thinking of travelling to Cambodia during my 10 week adventure in the region. My base will be HCMC and I've figured out which parts of Vietnam I will be travelling to--bearing in mind my travel companion will be my 3 year old son--so it's slow travel and open ended. I would love to see SR and maybe Koh Rong or other beachy places. I'm trying to figure out if I should fly into SR then travel down to PP and then on to coast line, or should I land cross near xa xia, do the coast, go to pp a ...
