2.5 weeks SE Asia, but where?

Posted by summerfield on 9/3/2014 at 04:39

Hi all, we're looking for the right destination in SE Asia for 2.5 weeks, doesn't matter when exactly. SE Asia because we live relatively nearby at the moment. Included in this we need about a week of resting on a beach: small scale accommodations and a few places to eat out, not highrises, lots of traffic and party. Water suitable for swimming and snorkeling. Sightseeing part: potentially by public transport, maybe better by private driver. Not too long distances and the itinerary not too he ...

Hi There, So me and my best friend are following our dreams to travel for three months around Southeast Asia. We are planning to leave at the end of this year 2014, aiming for the 27th of December and returning 22nd of March next year 2015. We want to fly to Bangkok first and stay there for around a week before moving down south for the full moon party on the 4th of Jan. We plan to spend around a week and a half in this area before starting our journey along the east coast until we get to the no ...

5 Weeks in SE Asia in July - looking for feedback

Posted by Dorotich on 5/3/2014 at 21:51

Hi Everyone; My wife and I are planning a 5-week journey through SE Asia with our two children (ages 20 & 22) this July. We are veteran travellers, having taken month-long family trips on 3 occasions (Canadian maritimes, France/Italy, Greece/Turkey) and experienced wilderness backpackers. This will be our first visit to SE Asia and we would really love to get an overview of the region by visiting Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam (we fly into Bangkok and out of Hanoi). I have been scouri ...

Pailin and Anlong Veng transport advice- or somewhere else?

Posted by Bridgequeen on 7/3/2014 at 14:47

Hi I am thinking of going to Cambodia in a couple of weeks. I was planning to fly into Phnom Penh (Air Asia via Bangkok) a couple of days there, then Kep, back up to PP to get straight on a bus heading out to Battambang. From there I wanted to take a side trip to Pailin . I can't find any info on transport (is there a public bus? how long does it take?) and precious little on anything else. I am guessing an overnight will be enough. Then, rather than going back through BB I would prefer ...

6 weeks in SEA: Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia

Posted by esseestpercipi on 6/3/2014 at 16:32

Hi all! My name is Ben. I'm half Spanish, half Dutch and this is my first post on this forum. A friend of mine is marrying in Koh Samui on the first week of September and what better excuse than to convert his marriage into a 4 to 6 week trip to SEA. I have been reading quite a bit but I am totally disorientated and frankly I don't know where or how to start (to plan) my trip. My first (rough) idea is a sort of round trip that looks something like this: + Arrival: BKK + Koh Samui + Krabi + Cr ...

Posted by marwe on 3/3/2014 at 15:56

Hi everyone! Me and my boyfriend is planning a trip to SE Asia this summer and we would really appreciate some advice as where to go and how to plan the time. Our main destination would be Thailand, we think, but we are also quite interested in Cambodia and Angkor Wat. The things we want to include in this trip is: Some kind of jungle experience/hike, visiting temples/ruins and also a fair bit of relaxing on a beach! I've been to Thailand several times before but never to Cambodia. It is my ...

Help with Northern Thailand

Posted by canada28 on 13/2/2014 at 23:25

Hello, I had flights and a hotel booked in Mae Hong Son for 3 nights in April but just got an email that Nok Air has cancelled all flights in and out of Mae Hong Son. There are no other flight options at that time. I need help figuring out what to do! We are going to be in Chiang Mai for 3 nights before. Would it make sense to extend our time in Chiang Mai for an extra 3 nights? I read about the Rabeang Pasak Tree House Resort - what are your thoughts on this? We chose Mae Hong Son to ...

Hello all, I could use some opinions on a trip I'm currently planning. In August I will be finishing three years teaching and living in South Korea. The first would be to fly to Istanbul and travel for about 45 days in Eastern Europe. I'm thinking of including Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, And Ukraine. Thailand - Burma - Cambodia - Laos possible in 4 days?

Posted by adammcintyre on 18/2/2014 at 02:30

4 days.. lol Just kidding, but hopefully got your attention. I've come to the end of my tourist visas for Thailand. I'm about to join a school and so get myself a 12 month ED visa, however I need to go to a border country to get my ED Visa processed - so I may as well use it as an excuse to stretch my legs. I could just go to Laos (I believe) and get my ED Visa stamped there. But I fancy a trip to the beach. I've not yet visited Laos, Cambodia or Myanmar. I'm living in Chiang Mai and have ...

How do you overcome the language barrier when meeting locals?

Posted by exacto on 13/2/2014 at 12:59

There have been a few good threads lately with comments by MADMAC and Cunning and China about overcoming the language and cultural barriers when meeting locals while travelling through southeast Asia. I'm getting ready for a trip to Indonesia in June, and while I've been spending time every day trying to learn some basic Bahasa, there is no chance I'll get good enough at it to have a meaningful conversation with a local person unless they already speak Inggris. So, what tips and suggestions and ...

Warning Xokxay hotel in Oudomxay

Posted by Gerardvdh on 13/2/2014 at 07:06

In your search engin about hotels in Oudomxay the Agodasite gives 3 hotels in Oudomxay. In the Agodasite you can book Xokxay hotel for about 180.000 kip. Don't do this!!! Agoda will take your money and when you come to this hotel, the owner refuses to accect your agodabooking. You may only stay if you pay the normal amount of 120.000 kip for a double. The owner says he never gets money from agoda, and still he refuses to remove his hotel from the site. This happened to me and my wife on the 12 ...

Hello again, As you may well know, myself and a friend are planning a trip to South East Asia for the end of the year. What I didn't mention in my previous post however, were our plans for the second half. We are starting in Hanoi, travelling the length of Vietnam, before passing through Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. After this we plan to travel through mainland Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo, before visiting Indonesia, and then finally bringing our journey to a close on the Indian Subcontinent. ...

Hi fellow travelers, I'm in need of some quick reply of wether my travel itinerary is realistic Since I have the option on a great flightdeal to BKK and return from Jakarta, I'm planning to do that route. I have about 6 weeks of leave. From BKK I can take the train route all the way down to Singapore, see some places along the route. From Singapore on it seems best to fly to Bali or Lombok and work my way up from there over land and sea all the way to Jakarta. So I will skip Sumatra. I this a ...

SE Asia itinerary ideas? May-mid August 2014

Posted by ladylish on 3/2/2014 at 07:17

Hello all - Bit of a ramble to contextualise our trip: I'm a 23 year old woman from London, and along with my boyfriend, we'll be backpacking Asia for a few months from April this year. The original plan was to do a trek in Nepal and then visit India, but we've had it convincingly pointed out to us that May/June/July will be an awful time of year to be in the areas of India we wanted to visit. (At the very beginning of our planning, we were intending to be out there right now, but work commit ...

SE Asia with kids - and *not* typical tourists

Posted by dancingmyrtle on 2/2/2014 at 20:45

Hello all. My husband, 15-year-old step-daughter, 7-year-old daughter, and I are departing for SE Asia on April 1. We are thinking of visiting Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, although we are open to other destinations. We have one-way tickets, and businesses we can run as long as we have Internet access, so we are open on time frame. Most of the advice I have received has been from folks who stay at hotels and enjoy shopping and museums. There is absolutely *nothing* wrong with this. However, ...

One month visas - how many days is that?

Posted by katieandchris on 2/2/2014 at 07:24

I hope this doesn't sound like a really silly question but I am just trying to figure out dates for my trip later this year. If I was to enter Cambodia on 4th October (for example) and I got a one month tourist visa on arrival - when would I have to leave? Would it be 4th November? Or would it be 30 days after I entered? Hope that makes sense, thanks. ...
