First time to SE Asia (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia) Tips on best places to go!

Posted by juliette13 on 5/8/2013 at 07:17

Hi, I am travelling to Bangkok 9th October for just under 10 weeks and I am planning on going to Laos, Cambodia and the Thai Islands (Koh Samui side) with also getting Chiang Mai into my Thailand itinerary. I was just wondering if this is long enough? and if anyone could tell me the best route and places to go!! I have no idea how long I need in each town/city so its hard to make a plan. I've read that its pretty rainy in Thailand during October so was thinking of going up to Chiang Mai as so ...

Posted by pedrorf94 on 3/8/2013 at 11:07

Hi all, I`m planning a 7-week (47 days to be more precise) trip to southeast asia on december. I was thinking about Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Singapore. So I thought about my itinerary, and planned something like that: 1)Arrive in Bangkok 2) Bangkok - Ko Phi Phi (I want to do it overland) 3) Ko Phi Phi - Ko Samui 4)Ko Samui - Ko Pha Ngan - Ko Samui (apparently there is a ferry connecting these two islands, then I was planning on staying over in Samui, and on new year`s eve head to Pha Ng ...

SEA May-July 2014

Posted by emiliaj on 29/7/2013 at 21:48

My friend and I are planning on traveling to SEA and India between mid-May-Julyish. I've read the weather "warnings" in my LP guidebook but how bad is it actually going to be? I've been to China before from May-July so I know the heat/humidity aspect of Asia, but is the rain going to be a killjoy for our trip? Thanks! ...

Tai Chi & QiGong in Southeast Asia

Posted by noslen on 27/7/2013 at 12:56

Hi everyone, I will be traveling to Southeast Asia (Bali, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam & Cambodia) for 6 months from September on and would like to practice some Tai Chi & QiGong along the way. I've been doing Tai Chi (Yang-style shortform) & QiGong for about 8 months and would love to continue practicing in groups during my travels. I am not necessarily looking for complete courses but more for 'drop-in' kind of classes. I know that both Tai Chi & QiGong is often practiced in park ...

6 months backpacking solo in SE Asia

Posted by WonderingAbout on 26/7/2013 at 10:27

Hi, I decided about a month a go to finally fulfill my dream of backpacking around Southeast Asia (and on to Australia). I'm doing a lot of research and reading on Southeast Asia but would really like some advise from people who have been there and done it! (The Australia part of the trip is relatively easy to plan as I know the country pretty well already) I'm a 31 yo male (taking a career break) and will be travelling on my own. I'll have around £10k to pay for my flights, equipment, insura ...

Driving from Ho Chi Minh to Bangkok - Is it safe?

Posted by bzmar on 25/7/2013 at 09:31

Hi all! We are flying to Ho Chi Minh and returning from Bangkok. Due to limited days (only 2 weeks) we were thinking of renting a car and drive by the coast from Ho Chi Minh, through Cambodia and end up in Bangkok. When looking at distances on Google map it's 1,500km so approx 20 hours driving. So quite doable in that scene as we will do it within 15 days. We also found that Avis offers drop-off in a different country so that's fine. My concern is if it's actually safe to drive in those countri ...

Last year my partner and I traveled for roughly 22 days in south east Asia, In this time we had 3 days in Bangkok we were supposed to travel up to northern Thailand but due to flooding in the area we chose to fly to northern Vietnam instead. We took 2 weeks to travel down the coast of Vietnam and then on into Cambodia where we spend around 5 days or so and then back to Bangkok for a few days. We Would love to go back to Thailand and Laos to experience the places we never got to see last year. W ...

Itinerary & Young Teens

Posted by mandanickel on 19/7/2013 at 11:07

I am planning a trip to Southeast Asia next summer, and plan to bring along my two girls...ages 13 and 15 at the time of travel. Due to school schedules we will arrive the last week of May and leave the first week of August. (We live in the Southern US, so are used to summertime showers throughout almost every day. They come and go and rarely last long before the sun is back out. From what I've read it seems SEA's rainy season is similar so I think we will be ok in that regard.) While I have no ...

3 weeks, malaysia/viet/thailand...please help me start!

Posted by slowtyper on 21/7/2013 at 10:15

I will be in asia for vacation Aug 22 to Sep 23. 1 week will be spent in Seoul, then my girl and I have three weeks to travel. I prefer to stay in one area and just soak it up. My girlfriend prefers to see many wonderful things and different places, so we will have to compromise and do a bit of each. Luckily however,we both are not into big cities or tourist attractions that are very "touristy". Not really into lazing around on the beach. FOOD is a major facet of the trip. I'm ...

SE Asia 4 weeks

Posted by migeli on 19/7/2013 at 12:28

Hello guys! I'm planning a first-time trip to SE Asia for 4 weeks in december, and I'm finding it hard to decide where to go. We're a small group of friends, aroud 24 years old, and we'd like to check out the highlights of the area. Big cities, discos and especially shopping are definitely NOT a priority, I'd much rather visit temples, riversides, calm beaches, countryside, tasting good traditional food,... The budget is not super high, but I'd prefer paying 100+euros for a 1h plane than 20euro ...

South East Asia in early November

Posted by KarenLouise on 28/6/2006 at 19:50

I'm thinking about spending a week in SE Asia (as a stop off from HK) in the first week of November. THis seems to clash with the wet season (especially in Thailand). Can anyone recommend a chilled place to go with nice beaches during this time? Koh Chang seems like a safter bet weather-wise... thanks ...

Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam in 3 weeks

Posted by bbluedd on 16/7/2013 at 04:04

I have read many posts saying that I will need more time than 3 weeks to travel Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, but please hear me out and help. My friend and I can only take 3 weeks off work, and we really want to visit all three countries. We understand we may not hit all the main attractions. With such a tight schedule, we know we won't get to relax a lot, but we are excited about being on the move all the time. We like sightseeing from buses and trains too. We are interested in experiencin ...

Travelling in Southeast Asia during Ramadan

Posted by sambrown on 12/7/2013 at 04:32

From our Malaysia wire: "Ramadan can be a mystery for many travellers passing through predominantly Muslim terrain. Messages of 'everything will be closed' are often passed along the backpacking word-of-mouth trail, but rest assured, besides a few inconveniences of finding some businesses closed or perhaps a ferry schedule changed, it's not too big a deal. The cultural experience alone is worth the extra effort of working your schedule around any inconveniences." Read the full post ...

9 Weeks in SE Asia. Is four countries too much!?

Posted by TravelTim1 on 14/7/2013 at 15:24

I'm planning my first experience solo travelling through mainland SE Asia next year for two months (9 weeks) after the school year is finished. The plan right now is to travel through Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. When I originally thought up this plan, it seemed like it would be plenty of time to take in all four countries but after reading many posts and advice that has been given on the forums, I'm starting to wonder if I should maybe cut the trip down to 3 countries. Possibly only T ...

SE ASIA / Singapore - couple of questions

Posted by 9preciousGems on 11/7/2013 at 04:27

Am planning on booking a flight from London to Singapore returning ~ 6 months later. I want to use Singapore as my main hub and will probably travel north through Malaysia and Thailand via train. Can anyone envisage any immigration/visa isses with having a return date 6 months in the future? (UK passport holder) Also can anyone recommend anywhere nice to stay that has private ensuite but also has a good communal area so it's easy to meet other travellers? ie strikes a nice balance between hotel ...
