southeast asia for 5 weeks

Posted by slemien on 22/2/2011 at 03:50

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Southeast Asia for July 2011. Now, I know this isn't optimal timing as far as weather goes, but it is going to be the only option for us. We have absolutely nothing planned so far, and we have only just started doing research. Here are my questions: 1. Just how bad is the weather in Southeast Asia during July/August?? 2. What cities/areas are absolutely must sees in Southeast Asia if we have a limited amount of time? 3. If we had to cut out one o ...

Friendly 1st-time advice sought for 3 month trip to Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia & Viet Nam

Posted by bobby_gigi on 18/4/2011 at 18:49

Hi all, Firstly I'd like to say how helpful this website has already been, and thanks in advance for any specific help you can give to me and my friend Mike. We are setting off on June 5 and staying out there until August 29th. We are landing in Bangkok and would like to explore some of mainland Thailand and a number of its islands, KL and the Perhentian Islands in Malaysia, and then Laos, Cambodia and Viet Nam - perhaps loosely following the suggested itinerary for that area on the website. W ...

I know what you want to get out of the experience is a very personal thing BUT what Itinerary would you suggest basing plans around? would your ideal route be? or routes that you ...

3 weeks in Thailand & Cambodia

Posted by cecenav on 12/4/2011 at 07:32

I will be traveling to Thailand alone (I'm a female). I'm looking for any tips on where to go. I've been to Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Ayuthaya and Ko Samui, so places towards the north are ideal. I only have 3 weeks in the area, but I also want to head to Cambodia. I'm having a hard time trying to plan out the best way to do this trip. I was thinking 1 week in the north (possibly Pai and Kamphaeng Phet), then 1 week in Cambodia, and end it with 1 week (maybe less) in Ko Chang. Any suggestions ...

Hi all I am an Australian planning to travel to South-East Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam) for two to three months later this year. I have never travelled before so I'm a little apprehensive about the monetary side of things. Would anyone be able to give me an approximation of how much cash would be adequate for a trip such as this? I wont mind sleeping and eating cheap but I would like to be able to have enough to enjoy myself and see and do the things I'd like without stressing abou ...

Itinerary - 3months!!

Posted by Jess905 on 31/3/2011 at 01:24

I have 12 weeks in SE Asia and want to see as much as possible however am aware that my route is going to be really busy. I dont mind this though as I am then travelling to Australia which I am hoping to take at a slower pace. So far I have thought I may possibly take this route: Week 1: Thaintro Week 2: Northern Thailand > Chaing Mai mainly and surrounding areas. Week 3: Laos Week 4: Laos Week 5: North Vietnam > Fly over to Siem Reap Cambodia for a couple of days just to see Angko ...

Essay on my Route

Posted by jonny_lewis7 on 5/4/2011 at 04:53

I know it gets done a lot on here, so apologies for adding another route suggestion, but really I'm just looking for a bit of encouragement or reassurance. This is also the first time I will have written this out to be honest, so it's kind of soothing to get it down in words. So here's my vague probable route: Fly into Bangkok on September 4th on a 60 day visa. Now, I'm thinking 60 days is quite a long time, so I'm not really in any rush in Thailand. Saying that, I don't plan on travelling far s ...

Thailand or Laos?

Posted by konnan101 on 4/4/2011 at 20:54

If you were on a two month long trip to SE Asia, from May to July, with the first 4 1/2 weeks being spent in Vietnam and Cambodia, how would you spend the last 3 1/2 weeks? Would you rather spend the last 3 1/2 weeks of the trip doing just the Thai islands and Bangkok (4-5 days in Bangkok) or would you rather split it up and spend ten days doing Luang Prabang and the gibbon experience, and then then go to the Thai Islands and spend the last two weeks on the islands and in Bangkok? I would be ...

Need help..looking for a perfect beach to relax and write.

Posted by gvaz28 on 4/4/2011 at 00:52

Hi, I understand this is a highly subjective question but it's opinions i'm after so any will be appreciated. I have about 6 weeks to spend in SE Asia and want about 4 of those weeks on a beach. I have a flight booked from Singapore to Krabi and was planning on going to Ko Phi Phi (or perhaps some of the other Thai islands) but given the flooding situation, I am thinking about switching to another option. I want a beach with good food (basic shack food--think Goa), internet access (enoug ...

Looking for inspiration

Posted by travelman8898 on 28/3/2011 at 22:00

Hi all, I'm going to be travelling to Oz/NZ between Jan-Feb 2012, and was wondering if I should make a 6ish week stop over to travel through SE Asia before (so mid-Nov-Dec 2011). I'm a 23yo guy and will be travelling solo for the first time, and so am a bit nervous about travelling to somewhere like SEA where there seems to be a lot more to see than to do (which seems like the opposite to Oz/NZ). Basically, I'm looking for a bit of inspiration to convince myself to take the extra plunge and d ...

Vietnam Verses Cambodia?!?

Posted by Jess905 on 31/3/2011 at 19:03

Hey, I only have a week designated for either Vietnam OR Cambodia. I will be in Northern Laos for 2 weeks beforehand. Initially, I was planning to do Northern Vietnam for 5 days then fly to Siem Reap for 2days to see Angkor Wat. However, costs included in this, I am not sure whether this is too ambitios. What would people suggest. Week in Northern Vietnam, Week in Cambodia or trying to do both...?? ...

So the plan is.. 3 and a half month trip in total covering.... Cambodia >Vietnam > Laos > Thailand> Malaysia> Singapore...and in that order (we fly into Bangkok first from the UK and spend 2- 3 days there before making our way to cambodia) i was advised to do my trip in this order so as to get the heavy treking out of the way in the first half of the trip and then once we have made ourway across to northern thailand, spend more time in thailand covering the beaches down south, f ...

Martial Arts in SEA

Posted by rduchateau on 1/4/2011 at 09:21

I am currently living and training MMA in China. I will be wrapping up my job in China in June and looking to travel South East Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos) for 3 or 4 months before returning to the States. Looking to continue training and learn some cool sh** along the way. Thailand should be easy enough to find places to train, but haven't seen or heard of much in Vietnam, Cambodia, or Laos. Anyone ever train or know anyone that has trained in SEA? Any suggestions would be sweet! MMA/BJJ/Box ...

Mastercard in Asia

Posted by chicoelnino on 5/2/2011 at 21:15

Am heading to asia in a few months and plan on using my mastercard which will be loaded with money from my current account via online banking(small amounts and then withdrawn). I would like to know what countries in asia I'll have trouble withdrawing money from using my credit card? My bank in Ireland has informed me that I'll only pay 1.75% of the withdrawal fee if I use the mastercard that has money in credit. Pretty good? ...

Best Cities to Visit on Short Trip

Posted by marsh354 on 18/3/2011 at 02:24

My boyfriend and I have two weeks to visit a few places in SE Asia this fall. I know two weeks isn't a lot of time, but we aren't trying to see it all (we will most likely be back for more!). We want to focus on one country or one area, but since there are so many options, I'm getting a little overwhelmed! We love big cities, and are planning on flying within SE Asia to reach our destinations. I am thinking our plan should include 3 larger cities, and maybe a day trip or two (I know we'll be ...
