Getting around Bali - specific questions/examples

Posted by stevenjmartin on 20/4/2015 at 06:25

Hi all, We are planning a trip to Bali and won't be able to rent a motorcycle legally. We could rent a car however (we have an international car license), but we aren't that keen to do so. With this in mind I was wondering if you could help with some specific questions about getting around Bali. These are the journeys I think we'll need to make: 1. Travel from ferry terminal (west Bali) to Pemuteran 2. Pemuteran to Munduk (90 minutes drive?) 3. Munduk -> Jatiluwih rice fields -> Pu ...

Help booking train from Jakarta to Yogyakarta online

Posted by Shoshana on 14/6/2014 at 07:33

Hi all I'm trying to book a train from Jakarta to Yogy online - I land in Jakarta very late on the 28th June, and want to travel on on the 30th June and I'm wary that I may not be able to get a ticket in person because it's Ramadan and peak travel season. First, a question of where to travel from? My book claims that cheaper less comfortable trains go from Pasar Senen, or more expensive more comfortable trains from Gambier - is there that much of a difference that I should pay more?? I am usin ...

It will be expanded to Russian, Chinese and US citizens too. Great news, especially as I'm heading to Indonesia in a few months! ...

Rough cost of 3D/2N budget trip to Komodo from Labuan Bajo

Posted by blackbirdbeatle on 30/4/2015 at 06:35

I read wikitravel that said that prices are between 700k-2mm per person which depends on the season, quality of food, and amount of people (Not including all the fees of the park and beer). Wikitravel is usually a few years out of date, which in a place like Indonesia where they are all too happy to jack up prices to ever insane amounts each year, worries me. We (2 of us and hopefully at least two more), will be traveling there in a week or so, still shoulder season. We are planning on just g ...

South Lombok accommodation and base

Posted by stevenjmartin on 2/5/2015 at 05:13

At the end of our trip to Indonesia we will have four nights to spend in the south of Lombok. I am keen to visit Selong Belanak and Mawun beaches, but was wondering whether it's better to base ourselves in Kuta and scooter around or to actually stay closer to one of these beaches? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for budget accommodation in the south of Lombok? One place we were considering is Are Goling Bungalows ... Many thanks! ...

Gili Air or Gili Meno?

Posted by stevenjmartin on 28/4/2015 at 15:24

Hi all, We will be spending 3-4 days on a Gili as part of a longer trip to Bali and Lombok. We are really torn over which Gili to visit - I was leaning towards Air but was then more impressed by the pictures of the beaches on Meno. I understanding that Air is probably busier than Meno. We are a couple looking for a quiet island which some good value (if possible!), budget accommodation. Which has the better beaches and which has the better diving of the two? ...

Hey there! I will be travelling for 8 Weeks in April and May this year. At first I wanted to have 4 weeks in Indonesia and 4 weeks in the phillipines, but after starting to read some travelguides i get the feeling that Indonesia has enough to offer for 8 weeks... I will be starting with a 2 weeks cycling tour across flores, so there will be my startingpoint, having about 6 weeks left to explore the rest of the country. First questions: whats the fastest / best way to get to Flores from an inte ...

Rinjani, Bromo or Kawah Ijen?

Posted by stevenjmartin on 24/3/2015 at 17:38

Hi all, I'm wondering whether anyone has visited all three of these volcanos and can compare and contrast their experiences? I think we'll have time to visit two of the three in our upcoming trip to Indonesia, and am leaning towards Bromo and Rinjani. The assumptions I have about them at the moment are that Rinjani is the most physically demanding but also the most beautiful (arguably), and that Bromo is likely to be the most heaving with fellow tourists (we plan to make our own way to Cemoro ...

Self-drive Bali to Java

Posted by Durianwriter on 26/3/2015 at 05:58

Hi all, I could really use some advise. I'd like to hire a car to drive from Ubud to Banyuwangi, Java, crossing at Gilimanuk, returning in 3 days. So far I've read that if you don't have the proper car registration and license you might get stopped at the ferry, and none of the car rentals I've spoken to have permitted driving to Java. Googling "interisland" or "multi-island" car rentals in Java or Bali haven't turned up anything. How can I hire a self-drive car to go to ...

Help first time Bali, spoiled by Gili Air!

Posted by Tazzfalcon on 6/4/2015 at 03:28

We're currently on Gili Air and love it. This is our first time in Indo and we're really enjoying the vibe so far. We check out of here in 3 days but don't know what to do! We need to be in Bali for a 3-night stay in Ubud on the 17th before we depart. So we've got about 8 nights to play with. It's very tempting to stay on Air for longer but we'd like to explore a bit more of Bali than just Ubud. We don't want to do to Kuta, so can anyone recommend a beachy-chilled area without great nee ...
