$1000, 15 days, Will it be feasible in Indonesia

Posted by helixusion on 5/1/2012 at 23:25

Hi All, Have already bought a ticket to Bangkok for August. Now, my dilemma is that most of the destinations that I wanted to visit, namely, Koh Kradan and Koh Lipe will be closed during that time. But my problem is the airfare, Indonesia will cost me another $500 or more for airfare. Have to book several other tickets...Bangkok to Surabaya, Surabaya to Bali/Mataram and then Bali to KL and back home to India. Indonesia, was always on my list. I do not want to visit a whole lot of places with ...

where to stay in Bali

Posted by arenal on 26/12/2011 at 15:46

I'm planning to spend 10 days in Bali end of February- beginning of March 2012 and I'm having a hard time trying to figure out where to base myself. I thought Sanur, since there's the beach, and then hire a scooter to go around the island. I'm not into the party scene at all... Would that be a good idea? Any suggestions? Maybe there's a more laid back, nice beach town that I don't know of? Or may be it would be better to spend a couple of days in Sanur, then some time in Amed, some time in Ubud, ...

I am a 26 year old American female and want international experience for my career in Peace Operations and International Development. I'm a social person and up for an adventure but also want to have the ability to communicate with people back home on a somewhat regular basis. I'm also considering Laos and Thailand ...

Yogya-Bromo-Bali -- travel advice?

Posted by travelinchen on 1/8/2011 at 13:28

We are in Jogyakarta right now, and want to get to Bali via Bromo. Does anyone have any advice on what the easiest, most comfortable way to do this is? We could get a 3 day 2 night trip by mini bus from Yogya to Bali with stops at Bromo and Ijen, but we're slightly concerned about safety, especially with the roads around Ijen. Also, the lack of a toilet makes the mini bus option a bit more uncomfortable than taking a train. Another option seems to involve getting to Probolinggo and doinh Bromo ...

Yet another itinerary for 3 weeks

Posted by blimunda on 16/12/2011 at 06:35

Ok, so I just migrated from the Vietnam forum because after much consideration I decided that I really wanted to spend more time in a beach and snorkelling/diving this year. So here is what me and my boyfriend want: peace and quiet, good beaches but not for surf, nature, culture, bicycle trips, cheap spa treatments, relax! I have to tell you that I work in a hotel chain so I have special rates in these places: Jakarta, Yogyakarta , Surabaya, Bukit peninsula, Seminyak and Senggigi in Lombok ...

Flashpacker accommodation in Yogya?

Posted by glomer on 12/12/2011 at 16:19

Can anyone recommend a very clean, pleasant guesthouse in Yogya for ~$30 USD, preferably in/near Prawiorotaman? I'm currently booked at De Pendopo and Venezia, but have read good reviews of ViaVia as well. Any feedback on these places or others? I'm in my 30s and would love somewhere friendly, but I'm not looking for a hardcore backpacker scene. Thanks! ...

Bali with no booking at Christmas

Posted by Smudger on 8/12/2011 at 00:12

Just wondering from the experienced Bali travellers if showing up in Bali with no booking during the Christmas peak season is alright. I arrive on the 13th and hope to bounce around Legian , Ubud, Lombok. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a cheap, clean, basic guesthouse, preferably in the Legian/Seminyak area. Should I just get a taxi to Legian and then wander around the side streets? Any suggestions of places welcome. Cheers ...

Pay per day pool/hotel facilities

Posted by monkindy on 28/11/2011 at 20:52

Hi I will soon be traveling in Indonesia. Mainly the island of Bali and several island to the east (flores, gili ect) I know that when traveling through other parts of SEA, can often come across hotels which you can pay a day rate to use their pool/bar etc. Or have found awesome restaurants/bar/pool facilities on the beach which are open to the public (provided you are purchasing food/drinks) (eg awesome place in Mui Ne, Vietnam where this set up is available) Just wondering if anyone knows of ...

Visa extensions in Bali or the Gili Islands

Posted by bizzungax on 19/11/2011 at 05:46

Help please! I have a Visa On Arrival that will expire on the 30 of this month and I wanted to extended it for one more month. The Lonely Planet "Southeast Asia on a Shoestring" says that VOA are non-extendable, although everyone I know told me that they got an extension without problems. So can I extend my VOA for another 30 days? If I can, then would it be possible to do it in the Gili Islands or would I forcebly need to stay in Bali for almost a week (people told me that it can ...

Steel-toed Boots a Problem?

Posted by kejumonyet on 20/11/2011 at 20:31

I will be travelling alone to Indonesia and Malaysia in a few weeks. I always wear steel cap boots as I find them comfortable and I'm used to them, but my parents are afraid that I might get hassled by police while I'm over there. Has anyone had this experience or heard of this happening? I am not expecting that I'll be let into nightclubs with them on, so I'll be packing other shoes as well. A friend of mine from Singapore suggests that the boots would be uncomfortable because of the rain and ...

Some information about Kuta Lombok

Posted by tezza on 16/11/2011 at 22:55

Kuta Lombok (Kute) is a fairly small village situated on a lovely bay in the south of the island. The town and surrounding beaches have a backdrop of soaring hills which makes for a scenic location. Kuta is a holiday place for surfers and travellers, plus a fishing/agriculture service town. It has a lazy relaxed atmosphere and the locals were the most honest and friendly of any in my 9-location whistlestop tour of Bali-Lombok. There is plenty of accommodation, restaurants, bars, bike hire j ...

Quick question about guesthouses in Bogor and transportation to airport from there

Posted by gilrand on 1/11/2011 at 00:22

Hello, I need to spend a night at a guesthouse in Bogor and leave for Jakarta airport the next day to catch a 1:45pm domestic flight to Denpasar. I've read that DAMRI busses leave from Jalan Raya Pajajaran to the airport at least hourly. What I haven't figured is how long does the trip take a.k.a. what time should I catch such a bus, anyone have any idea? Also any recomendations on cheap guesthouses somewhere close to the bus stop as no information on many guesthouses are found on the internet. ...

12 days of chilling and diving around Bali region in late November

Posted by gilrand on 25/10/2011 at 15:42

Heya, I'm looking for chilling out and (mostly) diving for a couple of weeks around Bali and Lombok in the end of November. Initially I was planning on spending it or most of it on the Gili Islands because of the relative quietness of the islands and diving possibilities (well not Trawangan) but have since read some **** about them, especially Trawangan I'm not so sure anymore. As the trip is quite short I'd like to fix my initial itinerary quite well before going and then modify it as needed. ...

Chinese new year in Ubud?

Posted by lindistar on 10/10/2011 at 18:49

Hi, We will be in ubud during Chinese New Year and i wondered , is it better to visit another part of Bali for celebrations, or will there be some festivities in Ubud? I know in general Indonesia does not celebrate it as much as some of the other countries, but will there be some celebration? Am I right that it's still a public holiday? Nearly forgot to say, I don't really like massive crowds, don't mind a little crowd though Thanks in advance! ...
