Balangan surfing questions

Posted by jordeer on 25/3/2012 at 22:04

Hello-- I'm a single female traveling alone to Bali in about a month, and I'd like to take some surf lessons--but nothing too committed like a surf camp. I am really attracted to Balangan beach (Kuta seems waaaay too intense for me in terms of atmosphere), but it seems like maybe the surf might be too advanced for someone who has only surfed twice in her life. So, I have two questions: 1. Is it worth it for me to go to Balangan as a beginner? 2. Has anyone ever tried Balangan Surf School? Is it ...

Update on Nusa Lembongan

Posted by tezza on 12/6/2009 at 11:52

Nusa Lembongan is a small island about 15km off the south-east Bali mainland. Lembongan was has 5 very good reef surf-breaks suited to expert wave riders and was “discovered” by surfers in the 70s. This in turn attracted backpackers to the budget accommodation and laid back island life at JUNGUBATU BAY, the main surfing area. Midrange and higher tourists then became interested with some pretty attractive accommodation going in on non-surfing MUSHROOM BAY a few km south west. In recent year ...

The driver's name is Made Dodi, I could say he is an honest, patient and friendly guy who can take around you the island. After booking with him through email, I was surprised that he called me from Bali one day before my arrival to Bali. I thought this guy must be crazy but he just said that he wanna make sure everything is going well on my trip. You can easily look up for him on Google by searching AA driver Made D ...

Jakarta neighbourhoods

Posted by Remedy on 14/3/2012 at 15:28

I am travelling through Indonesia this summer and it looks like I am going to start my trip in Jakarta. I am not usually keen on doing to much research before my travels as I prefer to discover each place while I am there, but I do like to get up to speed on areas of major cities before I go there. However, I do find information on the different areas in Jakarta hard to come by. What I am looking for are the distinct characteristics of the different places. Like Makati in Manilla is more upscal ...

All Lombok or Gili Air (and general Indonesia advice)

Posted by caseyprich on 23/2/2012 at 07:15

I'm booked for a flight to Jakarta on June 18th and return on July 5th (I know, high-season). I'm planning on a couple nights in Yogyakarta and then overland to Mt. Bromo. Then I'd like to overland (leapfrogging Bali) to Lombok - though I'm open for to the idea of flying from Surabaya - I'd like to know the sense of the overland from Mt. Bromo to Lombok if anyone has experience. (I'd probably skip Ijen as I don't like the smell of Sulfur). So I'm looking at a little over a week on Lombok/ G ...

Ngurah Rai Airport - baggage storage

Posted by Equineinsight on 29/11/2011 at 18:10

We are planning an extended family trip through SE Asia next year and we are starting out on Nusa Lembongan for a week of surfing and diving. We'd like to leave our boards and snorkelling gear behind in Bali while we backpack through Thailand and Cambodia as we'll be finishing our trip with a few days in Bali on the way home. Does anyone know if there is baggage storage available at Ngurah Rai airport? Also any idea of cost and where it's located (within the airport) would be great. Also, on t ...

House Rentals - Kuta

Posted by thompyy on 1/3/2012 at 20:00

Hey! Me and a couple friends (5 of us in total) are headed to Bali in May for a month. We figured it might be more beneficial to just rent a house or flat for the month and use that as our base camp. Does anyone know any good websites or connections that might help steer me in the right direction? I have been looking a lot online and came across one website, airbnb, which seems to be really good. Just looking for a couple more options since we are on a budget haha. Thanks for your help! ...

Pelni schedules

Posted by Popnorm on 12/2/2012 at 16:15

We have travelled on Pelni before but just a single Kumai to Surabaya trip; this time we are thinking about Island Hopping by using Pelni. Has anyone tried this? Is it possible? If so how on earth did you plan the trip? I have tried using the official site - - but it is not very helpful. Is there a better way or is that wishful thinking? If it happens it will be in May. Starting point could be Sumatera or Kalimantan; and we are looking at going hopefully via Sulawesi, Ambon, Ti ...

Bali Suggestions Please

I am going to be travelling to Bali from May 18th - May 30th and would really like suggestions on where to go and what to see. I am travelling with 4 other people and we have a loose idea of what we want to see/do. So far we plan on spending 2 nights in Kuta (we know its unauthentic, overrun by drunken aussies etc), but it is near the airport and we will all be tired after our flight, so we will check it out. From Kuta we most definitely plan on spending a couple of days in Ubud. From there ...
