Kanawa Island Resort and Diving

Posted by elizabethwoodru on 10/8/2015 at 08:20

Hi! I am traveling to Indonesia in October and was really excited about going to Kanawa Island Resort for several nights to do some diving, snorkeling and to visit Komodo National Park. I have recently read some very negative reviews about the resort - mainly about the bungalows and restaurant (which you much use). I have also read that the dive shop has left. It seems that the Resort (not the dive shop) is under new management, to the serious detriment of the facilities. Does anyone know ...

Gili islands: Watch out for cash lifters + sleep advice + the horseys seem AOK

Posted by GGG on 30/6/2015 at 08:22

When buying stuff on your way to or from the Gili Islands and especially when changing money on G. Trawangan , never let "them" (randoms milling about or the change people themselves or whoever else) see where you keep your cash. Or else it will magically disappear. I've gotten ripped off that way twice (and you can imagine I became warier after the first occurrence). They're very very good. They were able to dig up a specific folded envelope from the bottom of a zipper pocket filled w ...

Can someone recommend a meditation/yoga/relax retreat in Bali?

Posted by tyler on 27/7/2015 at 01:19

I'm going to be in Bali for about 2 weeks for a bit of a break before beginning work in New Zealand. I'm planning to be there for the last week of August and first week of September. Not looking to break the bank but depending on the place and services offered - I'll consider anything. Looking to stay for approximately 3-7 days. I'm hoping someone has been to one recently and had a wonderful experience or knows of a place with a great reputation and can give a guy a heads up. I'm open to any typ ...

Overstaying in Indonesia

Posted by LexHeller on 31/7/2015 at 23:01

Hi all, I can't seem te find a good answer about overstaying in Indonesia with the new rules (I think from july 2015) in place. Me and my girlfriend (dutch) came to Indonesia and bought a Visa on Arrival for 35 dollars. We were planning on extending our visa because we plannend on staying here for 35 days. As things go we totally forgot to extend our visa in time (7 days prior to departure). We read that there is a fine to pay for each that you overstay. The fine is not really a big concern go ...

Indonesia - 2 months

Posted by altmtl on 3/6/2015 at 15:43

I woke up this morning and suddenly decided that I'd go to Indonesia for 2 months in Feb. I was thinking the best way to do this be to fly in to Bangkok (Jan.) - as it's the cheapest HUB from Canada - Get to KL - then fly to Java (Yogyakarta) then head to Lombok and Flores by land and sea... return to BK from Lombok by air. I know I still have a lot of research to do but how does that sound as a plan so far? ...

Tourism and Indonesia

Posted by somtam2000 on 2/6/2015 at 00:04

From this week's newsletter: The Wall Street Journal had an interesting piece yesterday on the numbers behind the tourism industry in Indonesia -- you can read it here. One factoid that leapt out at me like a bad satay stick was that the "average tourist" spends just 7.6 days in the country. So the 0.6 is no doubt spent jammed in either traffic or immigration queues in Jakarta and Bali, leaving a remainder of just seven days spent exploring an archipelago of, give or take, some 17, ...

The Frugal Surfer in Bali (Long term rental? Buy and resell?)

Posted by zoombackcamera on 5/4/2015 at 20:57

Hello, I'm going to be in Indonesia (most likely Bali, though answers for other islands might be interesting as well) for 1 month in May 2015. I'll be with another traveler and we'll be looking to surf everyday, multiple times a day. We don't want to pay daily rates on two boards for weeks on end if there are better options. What is the most flexible/cheapest way to have access to a board? Options that obviously come to mind include long-term rentals or buying and reselling a board. What's the ...
