Anyone ever ride a bicycle from Vientiane to the Buddha Park? I know it is about 20 km and the bus takes about 1 hour, but sounds like a great bike trip. Is it a difficult ride? We have not found a good map of the area. Is it easy to find the way? Also, any other recommendatiuons for longer bike rides around Vientiane? Thanks. ...

Late December weather in Northern Laos

Posted by brownlaoshi on 15/12/2008 at 20:41

Hi all, I was hoping someone could give me a good idea of what type of weather I should expect in Laos over the next two weeks or so. I am about to leave for a two week trip to Laos and am a bit concerned about what to pack to keep warm/stay cool. I've looked at weather reports and it seems that it will be upwards of 80 degrees Fahrenheit and as low as the 40s in Luang Prabang? Can this be true? Those are pretty drastic differences. I am planning on starting in LP and making my way dow ...

Vientiane to Luang Prabang

Posted by Gerry on 15/5/2008 at 05:34

A friend and I have just one week in Laos next month (can't get more time off) We Plan 3 days in Vientiane, then 3 days in Luang Parbang, returning for one night in Vientiane to catch our flight. What is the best way between Vientiane and Luang Prabang? 7 hours on a bus each way might take too much of our limited time. Would it be too expensive to hire a minibus/taxi and would it save much time? Is flying a good option? All advice appreciated. ...

Laos to Vietnam

I am going to Laos at the end of january and intend to follow the suggested itinery for Northern laos that is on this website. It finishes at huay xai (or Luang Prabang) but I then want to go across to Vietnam and follow the top to tail itinery starting from hanoi. Is it possible to get there without flying. I have time but budget is quite tight. I know similar questions have been asked on this forum about going from Luang Prabang to hue. Also any ideas roughly how long it would take, how m ...

Luang Prabang to Hue

We are looking for the quickest, easiest and cheapest way to get from Luang Prabang to Hue. We were not planning on going any futher north in Vietnam as we are short for time. Ive looked for flights but theyre hard to find and a bit out of our price range! Is the easiest way a bus back down to Vientiane then across to the Lak Sao border? Does anyone know how long this would take, or has anyone done it recently? Is the trip really as bad as Ive heard? Thanks heaps! ...

Pimai Lao 2009 & Travel

Posted by daflj on 12/11/2008 at 15:46

Hi I have a question that hopefully someone can give me guidance on. I'm expecting to be in Vientane from the 11th or 12th of April 2009, and was planning on staying until about the 14th or 15th, before catching an overnight bus to Hue. I know that I'll have to book my accommodation in Vientiane well in advance, but I was also wondering about travelling onwards. Pimai Lao is (I believe) 13-15th April 2009. During this time will I be able to get a visa in Vientiane to move on to Vietnam, or ...

New year ( Pii mai ) Dates - 2009

Posted by basejump on 6/12/2008 at 06:26

Pii Mai is apparently a great time to be in LP if you dont mind getting wet abd the crowds - however, it is proving very hard to confirm the dates of this festival in 2009 - the Loa Embassy here in Australia advised 13-15 April, one hotel in LP said 14-16 April and another 13-16 April - apparently it is a 3 day festival that varies by a day or two each year. Can someone please advise that the dates are for 2009? Thanks in anticipation. ...

Hi Folks, This my first post on this great website. I have been reading a lot of posts and enjoyed them thoroughly as there is a lovely informed atmosphere in this forum. I was hoping somebody might be able to offer some itinerary advice. I will be traveling with my 14 year old daughter for a month. My vague plan is to introduce my daughter to some culture and scenery with maybe a bit of rafting, jungle and temples. Then after a couple of weeks of that bring her to the Islands for a cou ...
