New Zip Lines

Acording to the press release, between Vientiane and Vang Vien. For those of you familiar with the road it's on the Nam Lik downstream of Hinheup which I believe is that major bridge on the way to Vang Vien. If this link wears out as links are apt to do on Lao web sites try Green Discovery, they are the ones who installed it. http://tourlaos.blogspot.com/2010/01/zip-line-adventure-awaits-for-you-in.html They need to think of a catchy name, good luck on nam lik, or Experience withou ...

Attapeu Nong Fa Lake Trekking

Posted by hikulli on 8/1/2010 at 17:50

We stayed in Attepeu for a few days and wanted to go for a trekking to Nong Fa. It turned out to be little difficult. There is no travel office any more in the Attapeu Palace hotel and Mr. Ngai did not replay to our emails. The "official" tourist-information office is difficult to find and not helpful at all. The Information from there: "To go to Nong Fa is no longer allowed." Finally we found a local guide who promised us to go to the lake with us. It is not any more a 5 day trekking ...

Motorbiking Bolaven Plateau from Pakse

Posted by Ambushed on 7/1/2010 at 19:38

Hey Lao people My girlfriend and I had a spontaneous idea of making a trip on Bolaven Plateau and motorbikes seem a perfect means of transport. How is the current situation with on spot motorbike hire in Pakse? I suppose the options are not as many as in Vientiene. Any information/hints/tips are welcome. We are arriving on the 12th of Jan. Cheers Vlad ...

Luang Prabang to Hanoi via Muang Khua, Dien Bien Phu and Sa Pa

Posted by barnsey85 on 6/1/2010 at 02:25

Hi All, I've searched and searched regarding this and I've now resorted to asking the question.. Basically I'm looking to get from LP to Hanoi at the end of Feb via the above route and having some issues working out the details. From what I've read, LP to Muang Khua seems fairly straightfoward via Udomaxi. What comes next is what concerns me.. I can't seem to work out whether the bus running from MK to Dien Bien Phu runs daily or on odd days, and if odd days, which ones? Also, is ...

luang prabang questions - bike, kayak, etc.

Posted by cjigga on 8/12/2009 at 05:31

Aloha - I am making my first trip to SE Asia shortly, including a couple of days in L.P. at the end of December. I have a couple of questions and am hoping you'll chime in with your area expertise! For context, I am early 30s, from NYC, travelling solo. I like to pack as much as possible into my travels (understood the vibe out there is slow) and am on a budget trip. I also prefer physical activity over viewing activity and am interested in really great/local/authentic eats. - I know it's pea ...

Phonsavanh to Hanoi

Posted by gillerz960 on 5/1/2010 at 10:54

Hi I am currently in Vientiane and am going to phonsavanh in a day or two and then onto Hanoi . Is there a way to fly from phonsavanh to Hanoi and who with? If not is it a good idea to go xam neua and use the border crossing there? I have heard this crossing is tricky. If we don't use that crossing we will probably cross at nong het but will have few days spare between phonsavanh and the crossing. Does anyone have any reccomendations as to what we should do in that area? ...

Chinese Hospital - Luang Prabang

Posted by grasshopper322 on 3/1/2010 at 05:06

After a dinner which included a whiskey barrel and a few beers, I decided to play badminton with the locals...big mistake as I am very competitive - ended up crashing on my knee on the concrete surface. Went to the Chinese Hospital - an English speaking student nurse (from Laos) helped get me to the "ER" where a very nice Chinese physician examined me, ordered an xray, and provided treatment....total cost $10US...it seemed to have fairly modern facilities - I saw an ultrasound being used for pre ...

Any info on Croissant D'Or GH in Luang Prabang

Posted by dclayw on 15/7/2009 at 15:29

We're looking for accommodation for a family of 4 in Luang Prabang for about a week in early January 2010. As this is a busy time we will need to book ahead. Has anyone stayed at the Croissant D'Or GH? Seems they have a few rooms above the popuplar Croissant D'Or cafe. They do have a web site but not a great deal of information on it. Our 2 children are now 15 and 17 so I'm wondering if it's a better bet to go for 2 rooms rather then a family type room. I figured there would be more to choo ...

Mekong river trip from HCMC up to Laos

Posted by Indoluso on 24/12/2009 at 02:02

Hello! We're planning a trip (July/August) and the idea of having the Mekong river as a basis came up. We'll start in HCMC and take a boat to visit PP and Siem Reap. From there we were thinking of getting back to the Mekong river and go North to Laos travelling by boat, probably with Luang Prabang as a goal. During the way we'd stop to visit places like 4000 islands, etc. Is this possible? Or should we better do it by bus, as discribed in another topic here in the message board? Than ...

Avoid Thavisouk Guest House in Luang Prabang

Posted by andreilerawn on 21/12/2009 at 16:05

Warning to Luang Prabang travelers: Never ever try staying in Thavisouk Guesthouse because I lost my camera while in this place. I am sure one of the guesthouse staff had taken my 6,000 baht camera. Unless tourists are well-informed regarding the bad operations of Thavisouk, the stealer from this guesthouse will keep on feasting from the taken things from travelers. So tourists beware of Thavisouk Guesthouse. ...
