Posted by chatz on 19/9/2010 at 09:57

Hey Guys, This time last year there was no problems with traveling to Malaysia, but i've been hearing alot of negative talk about visa restrictions from August 16. I am an Irish Citizen, flying from Australia to KL on Oct 2, but only staying for 2 days before flying back to London. Question is do i need to acquire a visa for malaysia for those two days or will i still get a stopover visa of 120 hours as long as i have the documentation to prove that i am leaving days later. I'm also flying w ...

2 Weeks in Sarawak - Where 2 go? what 2 see?

Posted by hotchily on 19/7/2010 at 06:43

Hi travellers, We are intending to go to Sarawak in November for a couple of weeks, and enquiring if anyone has any recommendations on what to see, do and where to stay. We are intending to visit Brunei for about 2/3 days (max)to visit the Temburong area and then travel by bus to Sarawak. There are a multitude of NP's - what would the best ones be to visit along the way to Kuching? Hoping to stay in both Bako NP and Kuching for a few days each. Not much has been written for these parts Chee ...

2 weeks in Malaysia - itinerary advice please

Posted by slordan on 2/9/2010 at 19:17

Hi I'm going to Malaysia on 18 September for two weeks and I have not really put much thought into what I'm going to do. At the moment I only have my flight to KL booked. Places I am interested to see are KL, Perhenthian islands maybe Redang island also. And if I can fit Langkawi - I might go there too. but that might be trying to fit too much in? Am I better to stick to either east or west coast when I only have 2 weeks? Perhaps instead of going to Langkawi there are more interesting things ...

perhentians? should i go?

Posted by dougs077 on 13/8/2010 at 17:54

Hey all, I've read a few bad reports about the Perhentians - over-development, theft, drugs - I'm heading there mid-September and after reading these I am not too sure... Are there any Thai islands that they are roughly comparable to? Travelled widely there and am pretty aware you have to take the usual precautions wherever you go.. We are in our late 20s and looking to chill out in a few low-key beach bars and nice beaches.. my full-moon days are over.. would besar or kecil be best? Thanks! ...

Penang/Malacca/Borneo

Posted by placeshifter on 4/8/2010 at 01:49

We're a couple thinking of visiting Malaysia for 3-4 weeks. We have a 3 year old child. We're looking to rent a house/villa somewhere that's in a beautifully charming setting, close to unspoiled nature, without a whole lot of modern "developments" like skyscrapers, concrete buildings, and big shopping malls. On the hand, I do need high-speed Internet at the residence for work. Can someone recommend where we could spend our time? Because of the child, we'd rather stay in 1 or maxi ...

Air Asia from the UK

Posted by Sparts on 3/9/2010 at 00:45

Ok, so I've flown Air Asia many many times. But never from the UK to KL. Has anyone made this trip? They have awesome deals at the moment. One thing I hate is being stuck in a silly wee seat for 10 hrs. I honestly can't bare it. Just so long as there is a decent amount of legroom I'll probably be happy. ...

Cameron Highlands - need anti-malarials?

Posted by LaraP on 9/8/2010 at 17:40

Hi, I was just wondering whether anti-malarials are needed for the Cameron Highlands? For the most part I will be in the tourist areas but will be hoping to go on a few walks/trails if possible. From this map I'm guessing they are not necessary for Penang, Kuala Lumpar or Melaka but can't tell if Cameron Highlands are in the red spot or not: http://www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk/destinations/asia-(east)/malaysia/malaysia-malaria-map/malaysia-(west)-malaria-map.aspx I would appreciate it if so ...

Cameron Higlands-how to backpack?

Posted by fox80 on 4/8/2010 at 14:29

Hello, I am trying to picture how can I backpack through Cameron Highlands in backpacking mode. As far as I know there is no 'hop on/off' bus available so options left are taxis, bus or renting a car.I am not keen on taxis and hiring a car as we are on a budget but I wonder if you decide to travel on a bus, can you make the bus to stop wherever you want (tea plantations ,butterfly farms) and then join in for further travel? This would be my first time in SEA so I am a bit confused/overwhelmed b ...

Hey guys! My friend and I are leaving Bangkok on the 7th of August, and would like to visit KL. I will be flying out of KL on the 17th (back to Bangkok, then home). I've lost my Rough Guide to Malaysia somewhere in Kanchanaburi, so I need your help as to what to do for those 10 days. Considering we don't want to spend an excessive amount of time in KL, I was thinking of going to Penang first for a couple of days, then KL for the last few days...? We're not in a rush, so it might be interesti ...

Booking accomodations in Perhentians

Posted by petrarch1603 on 21/7/2010 at 11:28

What is the best way to go about finding a place to stay in the Perhentians? It seems like none of the guest houses have websites and the usual hostel booking websites are empty when it comes to the Perhentians. Is the only way to book a reservation to call the phone numbers? I don't have a phone here in Malaysia, but I guess I can always use a payphone. I just wish there was a more convenient way. ...

7 days in Malaysia - where would you go?

Posted by shaydan_01 on 1/2/2010 at 06:55

Hi everyone, My partner and I have a 7 day stop over in Malaysia before heading to Phnom Pehn. We will be arriving on the 16th of April and we do want to spend a couple of days exploring KL, but think that 7 days in the city may be too much. We are looking to head somewhere not too far away (half a days travel from KL at most) where we can experience a bit of Malaysian culture and see some beautiful scenery. Not fussed as to whether it is beach/mountain/jungle whatever and are not really ...
