Motorcycle Hire Borneo

Posted by RossAngeles on 20/3/2014 at 19:15

Greetings Fellow Adventurers, My girlfriend and I are planning to go to Borneo next month. We are currently trying to decide on Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) or Sarawak (Malaysian Borneo). I know Indonesian Borneo is meant to be way less touristy and much wilder (which is what we are after), but communication is much harder and getting around more difficult. We would like to hire a motorbike and use that as our means of transportation around Borneo for a month. Does anyone have any information ...

Report: visa extension in Malacca - cheap and easy

Posted by lifemagic on 24/3/2014 at 04:38

Just back from Immigration today, to extend my Malaysian visa, easy and cheap but no info 'out there', so I'm adding this. Situation: British passport. Entered and got ninety days in Padang Besar 'social visit pass'. Last year I extended by a visa run after 90 days but was hassled coming back, so this year went for an extension rather than leaving Malaysia and coming straight back. First, you will need your passport. The visa needs to be in it's last week of validity or they can't do it. A tic ...

Posted by Lize1985 on 17/1/2014 at 08:50

We booked flights to Kuala Lumpur and return flights from Bangkok, as we wanted to do a bit of Malaysia as well as Thailand. But now that i've read some of the awesome posts here, I am thinking of maybe only doing Malaysia? Can anybody maybe recommend some great places - starting from Kuala Lumpur and then ending in Bangkok? Would greatly appreciate it, as none of us have ever been there. Than ...

So this plane that's gone missing

Posted by chinarocks on 10/3/2014 at 04:26

An absolute tragedy and a scary story; currently looks like mid-air disintegration given lack of debris which would normally be found if the aircraft only broke up on impact with the sea. What are people's theories? Terrorism has to be a real possibility. Would the Uighurs of Xingjiang have the capability (or incentive) to do something like this as a proxy attack on Beijing, given the predominance of Chinese passengers on board? ...

Advice for memorable Southeast Asian holiday

Posted by msinger on 2/1/2014 at 12:45

Hi I am planning a holiday, for just over two weeks, in August with a couple of friends. We are all 22 year old British female students. Ideally, we would like a holiday that combines culture, wildlife and a good nightlife. However, one of the travellers has asthma, so we cannot go to a country with a high altitude as she may struggle to breathe comfortably. At the moment, we are looking into either Thailand or Borneo. For Thailand, I am hesitant about the weather in August (we are travellin ...

Travel Buddies for KL to Thailand

Hi! I hope this is the right place to look for fellow travellers? I wanna go from KL to Penang and a couple other Malaysian places along the way to Thailand and then Cambodia, Laos and maybe a couple more countries. I'm not a party girl - at all. So if that's you're main interest we won't match, but if you like nerdy things, temples, trekking, food exploring etc.? Why not travel together? I'm German and I've lived in Korea for a while and have seen a couple places but not nearly as many as I ...

Lankayan Island and Sandakan. Questions!

Posted by meeshakar on 9/1/2014 at 20:38

Hi travelers, We are going to be flying into Sandakan March 1st. We were thinking of going to Uncle Tam's for part of our trip and then checking out Lankayan Island for some snorkeling (We already have a diving trip booked in Mabul, so just snorkeling here). I see there is only one place to stay but we are just thinking an early morning trip out there would be nice. Are there boats that head out there that we could pay to take us there, or is there a trip package? I haven't really seen much ...

Malaysia/Borneo in January

Posted by jg44 on 22/11/2013 at 16:15

Hi - I'm heading over in Malaysia in January. Originally, I was hoping to go to the Perhentian Islands, but it looks like things are pretty shut down due to monsoon season. However, I have read mixed reports about Borneo - some say that it's rainy, but also that it's pretty temperate all year round anyway. Is the rainy season really bad around that time? I would like to hike Mt Kinabulu in particular. Would love any other travel recommendations for Malaysia! A bit of background - female, late ...
