Latest requirements for motorbiking in NW Vietnam

Posted by LawrenceJ27 on 1/11/2009 at 18:56

I will be arriving into Hanoi in 3 weeks time and really want to spend a few days riding a bike between Sapa - Ha Giang province and Dong Van (if possible!) My problems; 1) I'm on my own and have little experiance of riding bikes, with the exception of having (what I believe to be though I cant be sure...) a scooter for a month in Thailand 4 years ago. What are my chances?! 2) I understand the laws are now changing on riding bikes in Vietnam. Any certainties? 3) License, insuran ...

Renting a motorbike in Hoi An to Nha Trang

Posted by kendoll on 24/10/2009 at 10:23

Hi, I'm travelling with my boyfriend in January next year for 4 weeks in Vietnam. We are travelling from Hanoi down to HCMC and then continuing on from there. We know that to reach Nha Trang from Hoi An we have to travel back to Da Nang (which we would like to avoid). Riding sounds like a fun alternative to flying so we were thinking of riding from Hai An to Nha Trang but we have the following questions: 1. How do we rent the bike in Hoi An and then return it without riding it ...

The bike is making more than 25 km a liter. You can run up to 85 km/hr. The tires are in very good condition. Basically, you have everything you need to hit the road imm ...

Hey all, My mate and I are doing a Top Gear style motorbike/scooter trip from Saigon to Hanoi . We will be arriving in Saigon on the 19th of November and leaving Hanoi on the 7th of December. Rental Contracts

Posted by GazzShaw on 9/9/2009 at 20:24

Hi I'm currently in Chiang Rai and want to do the Chiang Rai loop. I have rented a Honda motorbike from my guesthouse (Chart Guesthouse) and have a question about the rental contract. I have bought insurance that means I will only be liable to pay 3000 baht in case of an accident. The contract does say that I am liable for 20,000 Baht if the bike is stolen. I thought this would be included in the insurance as it is outside my control. Is this standard practice? Can anyone please provide ...

Purchasing tailor made motorbike boots

Posted by mattd82 on 21/9/2009 at 12:07

Hi I've got a pretty good description, image and dimensions of some motorbike boots I would like to get. I was hoping that someone might be able to recommend somewhere in Viet/Thai/Cam where I would be able to get some decent quality leather ones made. These would be for riding, not just for looks and so would need to be very durable. Thanks in advance, Matthew ...

Moped riding in Laos

Posted by kbr2009 on 17/8/2009 at 14:40

We have just over a week in Laos at the start of November and were wondering whether renting mopeds is plausible to travel independently between Vientiane and Luang Prabang, spending a night in Vang Vieng and maybe somewhere else en route. Neither of us are overly experienced on mopeds other than casual holiday use - though both are experienced car drivers and sensible road users. Would be grateful for any advice on whether this is a realistic idea or not! Any recommendations on what to se ...

Motorbiking in Asia do a tour or buy a bike?

Posted by asiabiker on 10/8/2009 at 10:05

Hi. I've a eight week trip coming up covering Cambodia and Vietnam and have been reading the motorbiking Q&A with interest. My main dilemma is should I do a few short tours or just buy a bike and go for it? It seems both Cambodia and Vietnam have a lot of operators, with probably Offroad Vietnam and Dancing Roads being the most interesting, but I was wondering what kind of extra value you get out of a tour? Is having a guide especially important? I guess in Cambodia a lot is dirt biking ...

One way motorbike hire

Posted by sacott on 13/6/2009 at 21:54

I am travelling first in Northern Laos with some friends next month and we plan to make our way down to the southern end of the country from Vientiane over about a week before heading to Thailand. We would be really keen to rent in Vientiane and ride motorbikes for this leg of the trip but of course we do not have time to then turn around and ride them back to where we rented them from. I have read about a place named Jules Classic Rentals (http://www.bike-rental-laos.com/aboutus.htm) in V ...

central highlands - motorbike taxi? and on to quy nhon

Posted by fishtails04 on 30/1/2008 at 12:22

from what i can gather the places up the coast from saigon are all really overtouristed (correct me if i'm wrong, as i could do with a good quiet beach if i can find one!) so i'm thinking of going up to dalat and on as far as pleiku then turning right and heading for Quy Nhon, which sounds a little quieter. I was thinking of hiring a motortaxi driver in dalat for a day to cover the area around dalat as far as buon ma thuot, and then overnighting there, and getting a bus to pleiku next day and t ...
