Laos to Cambodia to Thailand

Posted by nordy812 on 10/7/2013 at 20:48

Two 23 year old friends and I are looking to backpack these countries on the back-end of our trip and are looking for the smartest route we can take to hit each of the 3 countries time effectively. We have a little more than 3 weeks and are flying home from Bangkok. We are struggling with chose a route out of Vientiane to see as much of Laos and Thailand as we can, but also hit Siem Reap for Angor Wat. Should we go thru Northern Thailand to Bangkok and do a trip to Siem Reap from there? Or ...

Walking around at night in Bangkok

Posted by Loretta on 7/6/2009 at 15:47

Wondering if someone could give me some advice as to how safe Bangkok is at night for woman to walk around by themselves. I was planning on staying near or around Koh San Road but have discovered a great place which is located in Sukhumvit which looks like a 10min walk to Koh San Road from the map I was looking at. The other option I was thinking would be tuk tuk's? Look forward to any feedback. ...

Hellfire Pass to Nam Tok Station, Kanchanaburi

Posted by Lazer on 10/7/2013 at 05:27

Hi all, I will be in Kanchanaburi in August for three days. On the last day I plan to visit Hellfire Pass museum and trail, then make my way to Nam Tok for the 12:55 train all the way to Bangkok. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to get to Hellfire and then on to Nam Tok? Money is not so much an issue so would be happy to get taxis if there are taxis waiting at Hellfire Pass, or are there other alternatives? Also, how reliable is the train in terms of time. Reason I ask is its sch ...

Do I really need an onward ticket?

Posted by NowhereMan on 8/7/2013 at 10:01

Hey folks... So I bought my one way ticket to BKK, and plan on staying a while ( teaching english ). Do I really need to get an onward ticket, and if so, should I just buy some cheap flight to wherever and eat the cost? I have a non immigrant B visa, so I'm hoping that immigration will look favorably upon me; I just don't want the hassle of getting turned back or having to book a flight at the airport once I touch down. Thanks! Brent ...

What to do when it rains in Phuket

Posted by somtam2000 on 2/7/2013 at 21:12

From our Thailand wire: "Phuket can be a wet place during the southwest monsoon from May through October. But as Thailand's largest and most developed island, there are plenty of things to do and places to escape to on a rainy day when the beach is not an option..." Khao Sok: How long to stay?

Posted by karibou on 5/7/2013 at 18:13

Are there compelling reasons to stay in Khao Sok NP more than 3 nights? I'm planning to spend one of those nights on the lake. Would a second night on the lake be worthwhile? I'll be in Thailand for 30 days, visiting Khao Sok fairly early in March. I'm really into natural attractions (especially swimming and birds) but not able to hike long distances. Hoping to stay at Smiley's Bungalows and arrange the lake tour through them. As a woman traveling alone on my first trip to Asia, I'm not comf ...

Middle-aged woman alone: Sore thumb?

I'm a woman in my 50s planning a month-long solo trip to Thailand and a little worried about feeling out of place. I've happily traveled solo before, but this will be my first trip to Asia. I'm probably somewhere between flashpacker and backpacker, preferring low-key, friendly, characterful places that are a little off the beaten path. I like meeting people but am also very comfortable alone. Not looking for romance or night life -- just want to soak up Thailand's natural beauty and "real&q ...
