Carrying cash

Posted by mattocmd on 18/12/2008 at 03:49

Hello, I am in the US at the moment and I fly to Thailand in a few weeks. I have about $2000 US worth of Korean won. I did my research and decided it would be best to carry the won to Thailand and convert it directly into baht. This avoids getting screwed twice. This will leave me with a large sum of baht and I don't know what to do. I would really hate to carry that much around but I think I am stuck. I will be in Thailand for about two months and will spend all of this money but I w ...

Showers in Koh Tao

Posted by Soontobethere on 3/11/2009 at 20:55

Strange question but alot of places to stay in Koh Tao offer cold showers for the cheaper rooms. Are these actually cold or does the water heat up naturally so the water actually comes out quite warm and bearable? Going to Koh Tao in January. Thanks Soontobethere ...

Chiang Rai 2 days and which Gibbon?

Posted by NewbieC on 3/11/2009 at 17:24

Hello We're flying from Bangkok to Chiang Rai and then crossing into Laos from there. Is it worth spending only 2 full days in Chiang Rai (as I've read Chiang Rai best for trekking and don't think we'll be doing and there) or should we head directly into Laos after one night in Chiang Rai?....Wouldn't normally ask such detailed question but we're trying to figure out dates to book Gibbon experience. Also - any thoughts on whether it makes for a much different experience whether we do the ...

Ko Lanta or Krabi

Posted by westcoastmimi on 2/11/2009 at 05:36

We are traveling in Dec/Jan for about 4 weeks with 2 kids, 8 and 10, arriving in BKK. After getting over jetlag, we will head down to Ko Jum for 4-5 days to decompress and then would like to spend a week in either Ko Lanta or Krabi before heading back up north to visit Kanchanaburi, Ayuthya, Lopburi. Which would be more suitable for our family - Lanta or Krabi? We want quiet, but not that quiet. Where would you stay? So many choices... ...

World Series in Bangkok? Nov. 4th

Posted by Dylan on 1/11/2009 at 12:01

I know this may come off as kind of crass... ...but I'm a die-hard New York Yankees fan, arriving in Bangkok late on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Does anyone know any expat bars that might be playing the World Series on Wednesday morning? I suppose I can always resort to a quasi-legal internet stream, but there's no fun in that. ...

We will be spending a night at Trat and take the ferry to Koh Kood the next morning. We are looking for places to spend the night. Nothing flashy, but a place that's clean, has attached bathroom and is easy to get to from the point where our bus (from Bangkok) would drop us. Budget would be something around 750 Baht. Please do let us know if you have any suggestions that fit the requirements above! ...

Ko Tao

Posted by Stormbag on 2/11/2009 at 06:02

Hi, My girlfriend and I are planning our trip to Thailand, we are arriving in BKK on 6th Jan and plan to spend 3/4 nights there before taking the train to Crumphon and onto Ko Tao , before heading back out of BKK on the 22nd. I am worried whether that 10/11 nights on Ko Tao would be too long in one place bearing in mind neither of us dive but are more than happy mixing relaxing on beach with activities such as watersports, exploring etc. Samui and Phangan do not appeal to us as want so ...

60 day free visa for those going overland is rubbish!

Posted by furneburner on 8/10/2009 at 14:37

Well today i contacted the consulate in Brisbane about a free visa, as i am going overland from Malaysia. I have an outbound ticket from Bangkok to Manila. After two conversations with my thai girlfriend and one with me, the lady said I am not eligable, because i do not have a inbound and outbound ticket to thailand. The free visas cannot be gotten if going overland. BULLCRAP! I dont have a problem paying, but thats not the point. Everyone else gets it for free, so why should i pay? ...

I'm bringing my 18 year old brother to Ko Phangan for the New Years Eve / FM party this christmas. He's pretty wild and wont be happy unless he has some sort of nightlife in the location we stay. The problem is, I've waited too long to book. Literally every single place that can be booked through travelfish is full in Haad Rin and Haad Saikantang. Can anyone reccomend a place that's either close enough to the Haad Rin area to make commuting easy, or another area of the island that has s ...
